Awesome hidden gem! This is museum is a privately curated collection of taxidermy of over 30 years! The actual taxidermy was so lifelike and full of energy! All sorts of signs explaining everything and very clean and great flow. Would absolutely return!Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
My son and I visited this museum and I have to say we were very impressed. Very professionally done, not just with regards to the taxidermy but the actual display areas which are very authentic and true to life. It's amazing that this is the work of one man over almost 30 years and what a great job he did with it. We took the time to talk to the owner of this location and it was well worth it. Got the background to all his work and efforts. Loved the writeups and explanations for the displays. Really cannot recommend this place enough. HIGHLY worth the visit and even the gift shop is amazing to see!!
I was blown away by this place! Maybe I just had low expectations or something but once I was inside, I was awed by the incredible craftsmanship and sheer number of beautiful mounts that are displayed. There is actually 2 full floors of displays. Many are in a hyper-realistic action mode, some where the predator is magically poised in mid-air depicting the split second before the prey is dispatched. Nothing gory or explicit, just incredible and breathtaking raw nature. They actually have 2 full-mount Polar Bears and the most glorious full body bull elk I have ever seen, with 8x7 antlers. That’s world class! The Royal BC Museum in Victoria should take note; this is the taxidermist you should have used to show off Canadian wildlife to the rest of the world. I’m so glad I live in the Okanagan so I can visit often and bring visitors here.
Such a lovely place to visit for kids and adults alike! We have been twice and cannot wait to go again!!! We absolutely love the layout of the dioramas with the easy to read descriptions, it makes my 8 year old feel like a proper tour guide haha. This would be an amazing frield trip for kids of all ages! The staff are very friendly, knowledgeable and on top of covid protocols. The gift shop is well organized and fairly priced. 10/10 would recommend to everyone I know and I have!!!
Just went there with my daughters grade 3 class. A must see for anyone especially young kids. What a great place for a field trip. They were informative about all the questions the kids ask. What an awesome place to see and learn about real animals in British Columbia.
We really enjoyed our visit - we happened to stop in during our road trip, just to see the gift shop initially, then we became quite intrigued by the museum after seeing some of the owners work. Great, life-like display in the museum, very informative and full of all the Canadian wildlife you can imagine! Recommend for young and old. Only $12 adult entry- good value.
This place is great. The first thing you should know is that all of the taxidermied animals displayed died due to collisions with vehicles so none of them were intentionally killed for this museum. The second thing you should know is that this facility is not wheel chair accessible; there is a second floor of display with only stair access. The displays are quite interesting and engaging. The animals are posed to show natural environments and behaviours. There are some displays showing predator-prey behaviour so just be aware if anyone in your group may be uncomfortable with that. There are signs indicating the species and often sub-species of animal common names only. Most of the animals displayed are mammals or birds though there are several reptiles and two displays of insects. My favourite was the bison. You may not touch the displays and they are behind plexiglass but there are a variety of fur samples right at the entrance that you can touch. Cougar fur is surprisingly soft! The staff we spoke with were lovely people. The gift shop has a lot of stuff including magnets, key chains, jewelry, sculptures, art cards, and clothing amongst other options. There is also taxidermy for sale in the gift shop. Overall I would recommend checking this place out and planning for about 40 min - 1 hour. Closing time seems to be 4:30 most days.
What a great museum with so friendly staff! This visit literally made my day. It wasn't even opened, but they allowed me to visit them anyway! For me, a girl from Europe to see all of this was truly unforgettable experience. Thanks again, I appreciate your work!
Very well done place! Lots of great displays very interesting. We bought some antlers, dream cathers and more in their gift shop which was reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend. Also the couple that run the place are so welcoming and friendly.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo wait
Wonderful outing for families! We heard about this place from friends and it’s such a hidden gem. The displays are amazing and the place was surprisingly childproof, meaning I didn’t have to hover over my 2 year old the entire time. The owner is super friendly and we learned so much about local wildlife. The butterfly displays were a favourite of my 5 year old. We had the whole place to ourselves; I don’t think many people know it exists. Very clean, very organized. Will definitely be back with our homeschool group!
