It was a random walk in and with a pleasant welcome. The aromas were enticing I couldn't help but stay. It was also very clean. They don't serve alcohol, but it is BYOB. I have been celebrating my birthday at CC since Charlie was the Owner! Even when coming home from Hawaii where I studied my Mom never ever skipped my bistec con tostones from my absolute favorite PR restaurant I absolutely love it!! The frituras are great, the music while dining in, the wait staff are all very sweet! I highly recommend CC for your next Puerto Rican meal lunch or dinner!! The only time I didn’t get my birthday meal from them was during Covid19 so for over 37 years I’ve been enjoying my birthday at Cafe Central!! I love you guys!!
Lovely spot for authentic Puerto Rican food. I got the following: Mofongo Papa rellena Morcilla Mondongo Arroz con pollo I would highly recommend the Mofongo and Papa rellena. My buddy got the asoapao and loved it.

Service is as terrible as the food is good. We went there on a Sunday around 2:00 p.m. The place was crowded and the servers were coming and going. Although there were a few empty tables and we stood at the entrance, no one instructed us to wait or simply be seated. We then took one of the empty tables. The servers again saw us sitting there and it was not until 20 minutes later that they came to take our order only after we flagged one of them over. Another 40 minutes later we got our three jibarito sandwiches. To be honest, they were really good but not worth the hour wait. Takeaway: If you have time to spare and are willing to take dismal customer service in exchange for comfort food, go. Otherwise, there's plenty other options out there. Kid-friendliness: Mom and pop kind of restaurant that isn't frilly and there's finger food that is kid friendly.
Enjoyed our visit very much. I love Puerto Rican food, but I don't like the PR restaurants in my area... so I am willing to drive to Chicago for lunch or dinner!!! Suggestion: it's best to go during the day. It takes time to prepare certain dishes, and if you arrive at 5pm, you will not be able to order some of their delicious dishes.
Bought a alcapurria today 4/6/23 , becareful , is burnt in the outside and the massa and meat inside was raw
Best Puerto Rican restaurant in Chicago ! I love the arroz w gandules the best ! & the chicken jibarrito is delicious staff is very friendly & welcoming . Great customer service & food . I have been coming to this restaurant 5 plus years . 10 stars
Delicious Puerto Rican food, just like we were back on the island. Large portions, great flavors, enough to share. Flan was the best I've had in a long time.
