The 5 stars rating is for the ice cream and the chocolate croissant. The store is very clean and staffs are friendly and polite. We came on Saturday around noon and surprisingly there is no line up. The store offers a variety of products such as jam and scented oil but people come here mainly for the bakery and ice cream. We ordered their July special swirl which is vanilla and passion fruit on a waffle cone and it’s sooooo tasty. It’s a little under $7 but it’s a good experience.
Came here on a Saturday afternoon and was surprised at how many people were there because of its odd location. I only ordered the ice cream swirl and it was around $7 - note that they do not take cash, only credit or debit. Ice cream was not worth the price and nothing special about it; the sorbet was pineapple and if you’ve ever had dole whip and vanilla soft serve you can imagine what it tastes like. They pipe the ice cream perfectly but it is given in such a small cup and it is filled pretty high, after a few minutes everything starts to melt and it gets on the sides of the cup. I liked the vanilla soft serve more than the sorbet, the sorbet melted so fast and started to curdle with the ice cream when the ice cream wasn’t even close to melting. Overall, the ice cream wasn’t even that good and although I haven’t tried the cakes, they look nothing more than aesthetically pleasing to look at.
Really love the ice cream here which is creamy and fresh. The interior is cute and they sell lots of local and sustainable products. We tried their strawberry cake for the first time and found it to be very average and plain. While the focus is understandably the fresh strawberries, for the price it really was just a simple and rustic cake that gave us the homemade cake impression. There are so many local patisseries and bakeries nearby with similar prices that utilize more techniques imo. Also found a hair in a slice which I emailed them about just for their own QC purposes and never got an acknowledgement. The ice cream and service bumps up this rating but otherwise the strawberry cake in particular is a 2.5*.
Definitely some mixed feelings about their baked goods. Cakes birthday cake and blueberry lemon are moist soft and delicate and good 4 . The carrot cake white chocolate was as my kids put it horrible 0 . The ice cream was very good though. The shortbread cookies orange chocolate were ordinary and a bit on the dry side 3 . Overall my kids and I were a bit disappointed with the baked goods that we tried but the ice cream 5 made up for it. As for the store, it's a nice little shop with some neat accessories to shop around in.
Really cool space with wonderful curated gifts for purchase. Got the blueberry cake slice, strawberry croissant, and 2 ice cream. Mango and mango/vanilla twist. Tastes like fresh mango's thats straight off the seed. Delicious and a MUST TRY. I like the straight mango ice cream, but the twist gave a flavour variety.
Got their strawberry/vanilla ice cream cone today. The ice cream was really smooth and the cone was crunchy! Perfect day to indulge in this frozen treat. The almond walnut croissant has a very sweet icy sugar layer, but it’s soft inside and crunch outside. The pineapple cake has a fresh cream, but personally I think it’s too sweet. Look forward to try the almond meringue cookies tomorrow. The raspberry and pistachio was delicious so I have to get it for dessert tomorrow.
Butter baker is a super cute shop! They change their ice cream sorbet flavour every month so it is fun to come back and try! So far, I have tried their strawberry, mango and guava flavours. They were all good but I enjoyed the mango one the best! We also ordered individual slices of cake to try but unfortunately we didn’t like either of them. The two flavours we had were the baker’s birthday cake and the raspberry & pistachio. The texture of both cakes were a bit off and very dry. We also felt the taste was a bit off. We were so disappointed with it that we couldn’t even finish the slices and ended up throwing away. I wouldn’t recommend their cakes, but only their ice cream flavours to enjoy once a while since they can be quite pricey.
I’ve been to this Markham location a few times for their beautiful ice cream swirls. I visited earlier today for the guava swirl this month and there was a bit of a line up. The location is in an area you wouldn’t expect it to be and the store itself is pretty clean & organized. There is a parking lot right in front of the entrance so it is pretty convenient and I’ve never had a problem finding a spot to park. There are also picnic tables/benches outside for you to enjoy your treats. I did enjoy the guava flavour more than the others I had previously tried. The only thing is, I find their cones tend to have a huge hole at the bottom so when the ice cream melts, it leaks there which can get very messy. When I was waiting in line today, we were told we had to wait a few minutes for the machine to cool down so one of the staff members handed out samples for a beverage. The people in front of me each received one as well as the ones lining up behind me. However, no one offered me any which I am confused about; why were the people ahead of and behind me all offered a sample and not me? It just didn’t make any sense to me. Not to mention, when it finally came to my turn to order and pay, the card machine was acting up so I asked the cashier if the payment went through just to double check. I was obviously expecting an answer but I didn’t receive one, instead, the lady rolled her eyes at me. I know for a fact that I was loud enough to be heard so that cannot be used as an excuse for why I wasn’t answered. I am quite upset with the service I received today. I hate to leave negative reviews but I am always honest with my experiences and this was just my experience. I hope the service here will be improved in the future.
The soft serve swirl ice cream is so good here. They change the flavour every month. Cakes are very good. Ordered the strawberry shortcake and two tarts. Love with the taste, texture and flavor is not too sweet.
I am so excited to visit Butter Baker for their famous soft serve ice cream. They have so many positive comments on Google & IG. This little shop have a nice ambiance because of it’s simple but elegant decor. They sell yummy soft serve ice cream, nice cookies, cakes & many unique accessories. We got the June special~ Hand Crafted Soft Serve Fresh Mango Purée and Milky Tahiti Vanilla Swirl with Homemade Vanilla Waffle Cone. It was totally amazing and tasted very delicious. We enjoyed it so much and not felt disappointed at all. The ice cream was very high quality and the service was excellent. Please note that they offer a different flavour of soft serve ice cream every month. You can watch out for their latest update via their IG. Our experience was pleasant and joyful. We look forward to go back again for their new flavour soft serve in July. This is a great place to go if you crave for ice cream. Recent Visit: It is already the month of July & we decided to stop by again for their famous soft serve ice cream. I was hoping to try the guava & vanilla swirl earlier but didn’t get the chance to go. The guava flavour got cancelled because of ingredient shortage. They now changed the flavour of the month July 2022 to passion fruit & vanilla swirl instead. It was still refreshing and creamy. However, I think because they tried to keep their ice cream more natural and less sweetened, therefore, the passion fruit ice cream was too sour for me. I think if they adjust the sweetness of the passion fruit a little bit then it will be perfect.
