This place is an institution. Any tourist must come here and try their food! I highly recommend you make a reservation as they fill up quickly. This is the type of place where you look at the menu but ignore the price. The size of your portion of fish is so big it often hangs off the sides of your plate. Recommend getting your food with both fries and salad. The fries are fresh and perfectly seasoned. The salad is simple and perfect. Do not over look the sauces! They do not over take the flavors but compliment them to perfection. Wheelchair accessibility: Parking is right out front and you can either gain access to the patio or inside.
Very busy place, reservations are highly recommended. Fish was fresh and delicious. I had the pan fried inconnu local whitefish from the Great Slave Lake and tasted the deep fried cod from my friend. Both were winners. They have homemade sauce on the table which was slightly sweetish but tangy and flavourful at the same time. The place is full of history and people who have visited from all over the world have left their names and/or notes on the walls or ceiling. Quite interesting. They have local beer and service is quick and efficient considering there was one cook who doubled as cashier, one waitress Paige and one busboy for the whole restaurant. Highly recommend!
Bullock's Bistro is a must-eat location when you visit Yellowknife. The fish and fillet specialists cook the freshest fish caught right at Great Slave Lake. Friendly, warm, unique, and comfortable are some of the words that I think of when at BB. You may think the menu appears pricy, but trust me, the fish and portion is well worth it! You should also consider that things don't come easy in the north, especially during winter. I had the Great Slave Cod - Pan Fried you can choose between Grilled, Deep-fried, and Pan-fried, the tender and juicy fish, topped with the tasty sweet sauce is simply unforgettable. I wanted to order their chowder, but that is apparently available during winter. This is an excellent way to experience Yellowknife's lifestyle and culture, dining at Old Town's local restaurant. It is more than the delicious fish. You may want to reserve ahead or come early due to lots of people wanting to eat here, tourists or locals alike.
Whenever in Yellowknife, anyone SHOULD never miss dining at this place Bullock's Bistro. This is my second time, today, in a year. Im happy to meet the most energetic Jojo, a great chef, who connects well with customers and is very transparent at her services. I always crave its Fish and Chips. Jojo never missed providing the best taste, from homemade tartar sauce to fita dressing to home made bread and of course excellent customer service. Thanks to her co-worker too. This place is truly amazing. Nothing fancy but all real and dedicated . They serve so generously. My pictures would show what it takes to be blessed dining here.
Love this place! Always a must stop whenever I am in Yellowknife! The food is simply divine!!! The whole atmosphere and the staff is amazing. It is always packed so call ahead if you can to reserve a table. You must try their homemade sauces! A definite must stop if you are in town!
Food was good, the portions are huge so I ended up having to pack some of it back to hotel. The place fills up rather quickly. By the time I left the wait time was already an hour long I came when it opened at noon. Too bad they didn't have any fresh breads to serve us before the meal came and they didn't have any fish chowder when I wanted to order it to go with my leftovers.
This is a really fun and storied spot in Yellowknife. I got the deep fried whitefish which comes with fries and salad. The fish was fried perfectly with a light, airy bit crunch batter. Portion size is very big. Service was good and it’s a lovely spot with a lot of personality. Make sure to check it out if you can.
A fun, very casual joint to get fresh, locally caught seafood. Super friendly crew, esp Allison - host, waiter and chef all at the same time! Portions are huge and can be easily ordered family style. Fish and chips are a must as is the fresh fish - we had Arctic Char, perfectly done with the buffalo ribeye. Chowder was great on a chilly-30c day.
We had an amazing experience at Bullock's! I had the Slurp'n'Blurp buffalo ribeye and arctic char! The food was simply amazing. Great selection of local beer. The staff was so welcoming and provided great suggestions. Thanks again! Will see you soon again!
Bullocks’s is a small but bustling spot in the heart of Yellowknife’s Old Town. The building presents as a ramshackle collection of log cabin construction, quirky, retro posters and handwritten signage. But don’t judge this book by its cover. This place is busy from opening to closing for a reason. It’s justifiably famous for its fish pan fried; deep fried; and grilled & chips, there are other delicious offerings on the menu. When you walk in you are immediately strick by the close quarters and quirky decor. The walls and ceiling and a very large, mounted Pickeral are covered in handwritten notes and business cards, and there are more retro posters scattered randomly throughout. Mix & match tables and chairs are spaced close, the open kitchen is right there, and there’s a buzz of conversations. We loved the vibe instantly! Fish dishes are available based on what’s been caught by local fishers. On the day we visited Pickeral and Lake Trout were available, so one of us chose pan fried Pickeral. *Note: they won’t grill Pickeral because the flesh is too delicate One of us decided on the Bison Ribeye, mainly because the price was much more affordable than this cut would have cost in Toronto. The Pickeral lived up to its billing. The genrous portion was cooked to juicy perfection, and was accompanied by crispy, tasty french fries and a salad. While they serve a side of house-made tartare sauce we recommend eating the fish as is so as to fully enjoy the delicate flavours. Also, a quick word about salad dressings. They serve a side of a feta cheese-based dressing, which is very tasty. The server recommended combining some of Bullock’s in-house made ginger and herb sauce which has quite sweet profile with the feta dressing; we did, but wish we hadn’t. The fish was sautéed in the same ginger-herb sauce, so adding more to the plate made everything too sweet - at least for our palate. Our bad; we should have done a taste test first. The Bison Ribeye was cooked a perfect medium rare, and was served with the same on point fries and a side salad. While it was delicious, we would defintely order two fish dishes the next time we visit. Service time from ordering to getting our food was slow, which is to be expected given the small kitchen, single cook and number of customers. We note this not as a friticism, but by way of a heads-up should you choose to visit - which you most defintely should. Our meal, including two bottles of cider, tax and 20% tip came to $130. Highly recommended.
