Bob Buckingham was called to the Nova Scotia Bar in 1991 and the Newfoundland and Labrador Bar in 1992.
Bob Buckingham is a lawyer in St. John’s, Newfoundland who has extensive, professional legal experience representing survivors of sexual abuse, in particular individuals who have claims against the Christian Brothers of Ireland.
Shortly after becoming a lawyer, Bob Buckingham was retained by many men with sexual, physical and emotional abuse claims against the Christian Brothers of Ireland in Canada who had been residents at Mount Cashel Orphanage in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Through that process he became involved with other individuals who were abused by Christian Brothers of Ireland at other Christian Brothers run institutions across Canada and other parts of the world.
Bob Buckingham represented many of the men who had claims against the Christian Brothers of Ireland in Canada in the 1900s and 2000s when the Canadian branch of the Christian Brothers of Ireland went into liquidation. His clients received substantial monetary settlements.
Bob Buckingham now represents men who have claims against the United States based Christian Brothers of Ireland. The current bankruptcy protection proceedings is open to Canadian survivors of sexual abuse to file a claim against the Christian Brothers of Ireland. The United States based Christian Brothers of Ireland, which has extensive related organizations, have recently filed for bankruptcy protection. The deadline for filing claims under the Christian Brothers of Ireland bankruptcy protection proceedings for sexual or other damages is 4:00 p.m. on August 1, 2012.
Bob Buckingham has the experience to assist the individuals, and welcomes contact by any survivors of abuse by the Christian Brothers from anywhere around the world.
In addition to his legal work with the Christian Brothers of Ireland sexual abuse survivors, Bob Buckingham presently represents individuals with claims against the United Church of Canada and Dr. Stephen John Collins who was a minister and doctor who worked for the United Church of Canada and the Canadian Bible Society as a missionary throughout Canada and overseas in the 1960s and 1970s. His firm welcomes inquiries from survivors of sexual abuse at the hands of Collins, the United Church of Canada or other organizations.
Bob Buckingham maintains an active and expansive general practice of criminal law, family law, wills and estates, personal injury and civil litigation, and corporate/commercial work.
