Went to Buck Ugly's for some late night dancing. Staff members were great. It's definitely a standard student country bar, but Halifax has been missing something like this for a while. Prices were reasonable, and the live music was great! All around, a good experience.Service: 4/5
Went here to grab food with my family prior to the World Juniors game. We arrived at 530 and ordered by 545. The waitress told us that the kitchen is slow and she seemed very unhappy with their service. Well I understand why….we left at 7:20 and had STILL not been served our food. We have since heard from others of similar experiences. Seems like there is some serious issues with the kitchen. We had to go to the game on empty stomachs! Not fun and really negatively impacted our family night out! Highly recommend NOT going here if you’re hungry.
Good atmosphere! Wings were nice and thick, Korea flavour a little too rich. They have Buffalo… then a flavour called Arizonaranch/hot… which by definition is Buffalo. Had them, just ok. Servers were nice.
The atmosphere here is fantastic and so is the service. I was served by Kylie last night and she was very attentive. They serve giant drinks in buckets. close to arena if you're going to a game or concert
As somebody who has traveled the world, as the website promotes the owner has done, I was excited to try the variety of food offered at Buck Ugly's. But I am confused by the identity of this establishment - restaurant or nightclub? Upon entering I was assaulted by very loud dance music at 5 pm on a Friday. The 'restaurant' is clearly set up in an old nightclub with all black walls, coloured lights and a loud sound system, but plenty of tables and no dance floor ? We visited to try the Dine Around 3 course menu for $30 - an excellent deal. The food had good flavour, but there were issues with almost every one of the 6 dishes we had e.g. The bao buns were tasty but the buns were so soggy I am not sure they were cooked completely. Likewise, the rice was hard and under-cooked in my burrito bowl. The cocktails are tasty but are mostly ice, and drinking them with a straw they were gone in a few sips. They would be great on a beach when the ice melts quickly! The music was so loud we could not talk easily over dinner and took our deserts to go as we couldn't stand the din any longer...and ironically ate them later waiting for a comedy show to start in an actual nightclub that had softer lighting and music at 7 pm! I am in my 40's and perhaps too old for the target clientele of this 'restaurant', but I certainly did not enjoy my experience and will not be back. I hope the 20 year olds enjoy it at midnight when dancing between the tables.
For the second time in 2 days we went to Buck Ugly's! Today we had Ellie as our server. She was absolutely wonderful! A true ambassador for Buck Ugly's. Ellie was friendly and knowledgeable about everything we asked. We can't wait to go back again! Plus, having the garage doors opened made our visit even better. However, the most important thing for us is customer service. Gabby yesterday and Ellie today have both made sure we will be definitely coming back. Way to go ladies!
Food was delicious! We found this place because of Dine Around Nova Scotia and it was close to the hotel. But what a great choice! We had bao buns and pan-fried brussels to start. Then the spaghettini with garlic shrimp. All really good. Beautiful presentation. Then we had the brownie and the churros. Brownie was huge and came with ice cream, whipped cream, blueberries and a sprig of mint. We loved that the kitchen took care with the food and the service was attentive. We had a great meal.
This bar was not trans / lgbtq friendly.A group of friends and I went this past Saturday. The bar only has mens and womens washroom. When my non-binary friend went to use the mens washroom , it was also completely empty aswell they were followed in by security being yelled at and told they were in the wrong bathroom and they needed to leave the washroom and not urinate in there or they were going to be kicked out of the bar. Our server was amazing , music was fun but the night was tainted over a security guard getting to decide what bathroom he thinks my friend should use. There aren’t a lot of lgbtq friendly bars in halifax and I was disappointed with my experience at this bar aswell. Do better.
Ellie was the best server, we got our drinks & shots within 2 mins, she complimented us and was just the nicest person ever. She deserves a raise:Service: 5/5
We waited for 45 minutes to get in, 15 of it at bar staff, and they still let a group of around 8 people in that just walked up to the door in front of a line 25+ people. We only went their because the line for the other bars was too long. We gave up and went to Basement below the shoe instead. MUCH better decision. The live band was awesome there.
