Was going to this office for a few years but recently switched due to the unfriendly desk clerks that are quick to charge you $50 dollar cancellation fees for not canceling within exactly 48 hours. Yet, they are quick to cancel you or reschedule on their end if need be to their advantage. It’s happened to me, my mom as well and a friend at work. Dr. Is great he just needs new receptionists.
Been using this office for family over a decade. I left 3 years ago when I found they were overcharging for cleanings charging at higher rate because I had a deep cleaning 4 years prior. Recently my wife had an emergency broke a molar April 28th was seen by Harbolt recommended extraction or root canal which neither was an option at this dentist so got a referral the Dentist referred to in Grants Pass, Or., the referral dentist wasn't able to see my wife until August. So I called my Dentist in GP Ericksons who set an appt within a week and also blocked out the time to do the work Root Canal and crown. Today I received a bill from Brookings Dental for cancelled appt for my twin daughters for a cleaning appt. same day appt as per there covid policy one daughter was sick with stomach issues as explained day prior to appt so they were willing to reverse the charges for one but her sister was to be charged. So today I called and spoke with Office Manager Heidi and asked how they can cancel appt for patients who go out of the area and have covid symptoms yet expect a sibling to show up to the same day appt. Heidi then stated, she would reverse the charges but both girls needed a covid test prior to being seen in the future. I chose to say goodbye to this Office at that point and will be looking elsewhere for dental services. The desk staff are nice and the hygienists are nice but their office policy and tactics fail. I do not recommend this dental group!
This office is truly one of the Best offices on the Southern Oregon Coast, Dr. Harbolt has such a personable bed side manner, the front desk is always friendly and greets you with a smile. The assistants remember details about your life and continue to build relationships with you. The Hygienist are such sweet people who have your best interest at heart. I couldn't say more nice' things about this office. I wish I could rate higher then 5 stars.
The front desk people are very RUDE no respect for Veterans after taking my husband money for a check up called him days later to tell him he will have to see someone else to remove his tooth so unprofessional very disappointed on how they treat people never will ho there again!
Very hygienic for Covid-19. They have an air vacuum next to your mouth while working so the patient's exhalation is not going into the room. Masks mandatory at this time Sept '21. No amalgam fillingssilver. I see Michelle, one of their dental hygienists, who is excellent. I have never had a complaint regarding Dr Harbolt or any of his staff. I usually pay after each visit with my Visa credit card.
At Brookings Dental Group all the staff seem to take a personal interest in the clients. I always feel welcome and recognized. It goes beyond courtesy to a feeling of genuine caring. Each staff member I have worked with seems highly skilled. This is as close to painless dentistry as one might hope. I am always impressed and I trust the advice I receive. I am grateful to have such excellent care.
They say they are the friendliness dentist in town. That may be true but I left two messages on their answering machine today asking them to return a call about a sore tooth I have and like plumbers in this town haven't heard a thing from them. But they may still be friendly.
Having served in the medical community for many years before retiring to Brookings, I can spot who is genuine in their caring, and who just wears the mask of concern. "The friendliest practice in town" so they say. It appears the staff has been well coached to deliver that impression. The musac is pleasant. The furnishings attractive. The technology appears to be state of the art. It ought to be, since they charge exorbitant book rates set by the insurance industry which, in my case netted them roughly $3000/hr. Dr. Kooning, who comes in once a month from Portland to perform oral surgery, comes off courteous and professional. But if you question him, you will readily see he believes he is God's gift to the peons of low-country. In this office you are tipped off by the reams of paperwork you need to sign for their legal protection before they will start your procedure. And if you have a concern, a question or a problem, the "friendly" attitude switches immediately to defensive, curt and condescending. I called to report issues of pain and infection two months post-surgery and wanted to talk to a dental professional. I was coldly cut off and told to make an appointment with my referring dentist, even though my concerns were directly related to the procedure performed by Dr. Kooning. I was told that he would NOT talk to me, not even by telephone, until our next scheduled appointment 3 weeks later. At this appointment the staff greeted me with their trademark smiles and efficiency. I chatted amicably and was in a good mood, happy to be re-evaluated. Since they left the computer screen open as I waited, unintentionally or not, I could see how staff wrote up their notes on me -- just as defensive and protective as the tone they projected on the phone. After reviewing my images, these notes and comments from staff, Dr. Kooning told me to take my business elsewhere. When I told him my concerns were not with his competence, but rather with issues of communication, he rolled his eyes and told me I should not expect better in this "underserved" community. Sad.
Our appointment was at 11am and we got here at 10:50am. We are still waiting to see Dr. Harbolt! We waited over 30 minutes in the waiting room and now another 30 minutes in a room! No one acknowledged the dentist was running late until after 30 minutes while sitting in the waiting room until I finally asked why we have not been seen yet. The hygienists in the back are very sweet and helpful and tried to get the attention on the dentist. I would recommend calling the office prior to your appointment to see if the doctor is on time or running late.
First visit here. Had a very professional cleaning and exam. I was beyond happy with my experience with everyone at this office. They are extremely friendly and professional. I have had extensive dental work and am so happy to have found this dentist and his incredible staff.
