Review Date: July 15th, 2015 The pink pig was not the barista. I repeat. The pink pig was not the barista. Like many of our afternoons in Nakusp, we spent the time walking around and exploring the little town. On this particular day, we stumbled in to this bright pink pig and a deli/bistro place. Seeing as we had been walking in the summer sun for awhile, we headed in to see if they sold drinks of any sort. What we weren’t expecting was a full blown coffee shop with food offerings and artwork on the wall. Not only was the artwork amazing in my opinion but it was for sale! I’ve seen a few coffee shops like this and I respect them for supporting local artists. There was one or two that I wanted but there is no way it would’ve survived the rest of the trip with how packed the van was. With that out of the way, lets move on. Being pleasantly surprised this place was set up for coffee, we poured over the menu as we tried our best to not get in people’s way. As I did during this whole trip, I ordered an ice caramel latte. Andy and Laura picked up a black coffee for themselves. As we waited for our drinks to come out, we looked around. This place was a fun hodgepodge of many things. Between the artwork for sale, the place being a bistro/coffee shop hybrid and also offering a variety of goodies to buy on shelves, it offered almost something for everyone. Yes, that even includes Hickory Baconnaise for that one reader out there that loves the stuff. We finally got our drinks after a little bit of waiting it was a bit busy due to a lunch rush and headed out. With the lunch rush, we didn’t want to take up too much room for no reason. As we stepped back outside and in to the sun, I knew I had to get a photo with the pig before resuming our walk. After a quick photo, I took a sip of my coffee and felt a bit distraught. Yes, it was iced. Yes, it was caramel-flavored. Yes, it was made well. But what I didn’t expect was the overwhelming espresso flavoring with a hint of watered-down. Sure, there was some caramel in there but it was so subtle and overpowered by everything else. I think since they were dealing with a lunch rush and there were a few people prepping orders, something got lost in the shuffle. While the lackluster latte was just that, I didn’t let it get me down. I would love to go back and give them a second chance and maybe purchase some artwork, but that 50+ hour drive is a big barrier to get over.
Excellent ambience. Great service. Has a nice selection of coffees and specialty drinks. I had a chai latte and it was delicious! I also had a loaded omelete with rye bread. Definitely would come here again!
Probably the best placed to eat breakfast or have a coffee in Nakusp. The servers are really friendly and fast paced. Lunches are good and they have a small outdoor patio to eat outside.
Lovely place, great energy, upbeat and warm staff! Great vibe! Certainly the place to stop or hangout in Nakusp. Also, the perfect spot to stop before driving to the Hot Springs!!! Welcoming and cozy!
This place might have been bad but it was great for us. Got a sandwich and breakfast bagel to go. Made fresh and wrapped for our road trip.
We just had a lovely iced coffee, smoothie and cookie on the patio at Broadway Deli Bistro. Nice staff, beautiful, shady patio and good wifi. Nice place to relax
Salad tastes fresh and refreshing. Try out the zucchini soup too, it tastes uniquely amazing
My wife had rueben and I had the everything omelette. Really good
Excellent food. But I have to say that I was dissapointed to have it served with single use plastic cutlery and paper plates. For an upscale breakfast I do expect a better way for our environment. If I want to produce garbage I could go to any fast-food place.
I have been here before and rated it very well, but this time it was a very different experience. We went in the morning to get some breakfast sandwiches. I am gluten free. The girl at the cash remembered me and was great like always. She warned us it may be a little bit because they were busy and i was fine with that. She rang in our order and wrote that I have an allergy on the ticket. As I was paying for our food, the cook came out and said because I was gluten free she wouldn't do it because she would have to stop and wipe down the kitchen. I cancelled the purchase and we left. I was embarrassed and as I had been looking forward to this, I was upset. I do not choose for gluten to make me sick and for a restaurant that offers gluten free options this should never of happened. I understand they were busy but it could have been handled a lot better. I will never be back.
