We are a general trade bookshop founded in 1976 with a special focus on children's books and local interest. We also carry book-themed clothing, stationery and calendars. Come on in, you're always welcome!
Founded in 1976 by Hilary Sircom, the Box of Delights Bookshop is named after the beloved British children's novel by John Masefield. In 1991 it was purchased by Mitzi DeWolfe, who upheld a high standard of community-oriented bookselling during some difficult times in the industry. In 2014 she invited former employee Hilary Drummond to manage the shop and make some changes that will ensure that the shop continues to thrive for the next 40 years. As a general trade bookstore, the Box of Delights carries a wide range of genres with a special focus on children's books and local interest, as well as providing a wide selection of book-themed clothing, stationery, and calendars.
A mainstay of Main Street commerce, we remain actively involved in community events by selling tickets for local theatrical and musical events, organizing readings and other literary gatherings, and using our space to promote literacy and the power of reading. We are also very pleased to have long-standing professional relationships with local arts initiatives such as the Ross Creek Centre for the Arts, the Deep Roots Music Festival and the Al Whittle Theatre. Hilary no longer has anything to do with the store but continues with her support and we continue to chug along. Ian Porter bought the building and many changes will happen in the new year. For the time being, we will stay put, so no worries! Everything else will remain the same.
Come on in to find out what's new in the shop, what's going on around town, or just to have a chat about the book world. You're always welcome!
