My husband and I visited Vermont for the 1st time last weekend. Heard great things about Bourbon Street restaurant. Tried it Saturday evening for dinner. AMAZING!! Went back on Sunday night for dinner again. Owner is a super nice guy who took great care of us. Food was absolutely delicious both nights. Definitely going back next visit to Vermont!! Thank you Rick!!
Awesome hidden gem in downtown Burlington, chef Richard created a small rustic dining experience and is clearly very passionate about his food. The flank steak is tender and extremely flavorful, the catfish entree is awesome as well- slightly spicy with a sweet salsa, the red beans and rice are also standout. They round out the meal nicely and are well seasoned as well. Nothing on the plate lacks flavor! Also Save room for desert, the sweet potato maple cheesecake is literally to die for.
I don't do very many food reviews and the few I've done are usually of the negative variety. Richard at Bourbon Street has changed my thinking! It's a cool, cozy restaurant run entirely by the chef himself. I had gator gumbo with an order of pork cracklins then finished the meal off with delicious peach cobbler with a scoop of ice cream on top! The gumbo was the best I've had and I've had the "real deal" in NOLA. The Cajun seasoned pork belly cracklins were hot and fresh and made the perfect accompaniment! Give it a try! You will smile all the way home while texting your friends to beg them to go with you next time! Bourbon Street Burlington, it's thing!
The perfect intimate spot for small gatherings, excellent food and personalized professional service. Try the frog legs, duck ragout, gater gumbo and don't forget to finish with the sweet potato maple cheesecake! Make a reservation, you won't regret it, Rick is a 5 in my book!
I don’t even know where to begin. This is an absolute 6 star sensation. The sheer shame that this establishment doesn’t have a Michelin star is abhorrent. Chef Richard even tho he literally does everything, from serving, bussing, cooking, prepping is a very unique person. Truly awesome food, I got the Etouffe and my friend got the jumbalaya. Both excellent. Frog legs are a great appetizer. Reservations encouraged! He does this solo, so he might not be able to handle a walk in. We got lucky, the chef was a fun guy to just chat with, and he walked us through the history of how he got there. There was nothing but special from beginning to end. I will come back to Vermont for this restaurant alone if I have to :
Personal service from chef Richard makes you feel as if you're hanging out around the kitchen in someone's home. A unique small restaurant with seating for only 16 - so you definitely need to make a reservation! We had a party of 6 and everyone was impressed and very happy with their meal. We started with the flank steak, frogs legs, and pork cracklins wich we're quite tasty with just the right amount of Cajun seasoning. My main course was the stuffed pork shoulder with red beans, rice and collard greens fresh out of the oven. Mm mm good! The Kentucky bourbon pecan pie was a great finish although we really wanted beignets which were unfortunately unavailable due to supply shortages Highly recommend this place. Go ahead and make your reservation
*A MUST VISIT* Came to Burlington for Christmas this year for the first time. Along our search for a restaurant who was open Christmas night we found Rue Bourbon. We called and made a reservation for the two of us. When we arrived we were greeted by the Owner Richard, a cheerful and passionate chef. Little did we know, he runs the show by himself, impressive. We started with the Gator gumbo and grilled oysters, the flavors were absolutely delicious. For the main entrees we ordered the Duck Ragout and Bluegrass chicken, I highly recommend trying them both! For dessert we ended up ordering the Maple sweet potato cheesecake, YUM! We ended up ordering another to take home with us. Richard, thank you for such a wonderful dining experience. Having the restaurant to ourselves and you as our private chef and on Christmas was a great pleasure. Will definitely be back next time we are in town!
The restaurant is lovely and soooo cozy. It gives a homey, easygoing and non-pretentious vibe. The food is flavorful and wholesome, portion is generous, the sweet potato maple cheesecake is truly impressive. The chef is friendly and efficient. The kitchen is open so expect to have your clothes and hair smell like food for a while after eating. However it gives us a chance to enjoy watching the chef does his work which was both fascinating and mesmerizing. Reservation is strongly recommended.
A story was told to me about a wonderful restaurant, with delicious food at a reasonable price and an experience unlike anywhere else. The story turned out to be true. I was impressed with Richard's cooking, serving, seasoning, and the ambiance of his restaurant. I've been telling everyone about this unique experience, where the cook/waiter/host/dishwasher/owner was one person–what an exciting experience!
Short version: My dad and I ate here tonight, and we both loved it. And it's a brand-new restaurant so you should try it! Long version: Dad got the jambalaya, and I got the blackened catfish. We both loved it, and since I had the catfish, I'll speak to that: It was overflowing with flavor, being blackened was only one part of its story. The diced bell peppers and I think red onions with it only elevated it, as did how gentle the rice felt on my palette. The tomatoes I think they were tomatoes on the side packed a serious punch, not in a spicy way just how like when you bite into something juicy it rushes over you. The greens nicely contrasted it all with a verdant, extremely mild bitterness, and the kidney beans had just the right texture too. Long version continued: The lemon meringue pie and bourbon pecan pie are to die for. The lemon meringue pie was light as air and a nice combo of sweet and tangy, and the bourbon pecan pie was delicately sweet with the full body of a rich, well, bourbon. We would go back like tomorrow if we lived nearby, but since we're tourists, we'll revisit whenever we return!
