You can talk about your snowmobiles new treads, or you can talk about the state of scripture studies, your home made candles, or you can stare out the window onto the mural painting of the town as it used to be, when a train ran through it, carving a line through the mountains and life congregated around the station. Bread puffed up like proud dad's when their little girl smiles out a tooth, desserts of the French variety, sweet, varied and mysterious. You can talk to the staff freely about the weather without fear.

Wonderful surprise on the way home from Tremblant. Worth going out of your way for the salmon crepe and home made Hollandaise Benedict.

I have been coming to this restaurant with groups of friends for several years after hiking or snowshoeing, and it has always been a favourite. We’re usually there mid to late afternoon, and appreciate being able to reserve upstairs for our group. The pastries, etc are delicious, and the meals off the menu are okay (not spectacular, but acceptable). However, today we had an experience that left a bad taste. One of our group ordered the crepes with maple syrup, $8.20 (coffee not included). A plate with ONE crepe was served - ONE. For $8.20?? We asked the server if they’d forgotten to serve the rest of the crepes. She said, no, this is it, but a second crepe could be had for $5 extra. We explained that most people would consider an order of crêpes to number more than one, and we were pretty disappointed. Our friend was offered to eat some bread from the bread bar if he wanted more food. Let me say the server was polite, and with a group of 17 people, was quite efficient. Later, as we getting ready to leave, the owner presented himself and appeared to quite angry that we had dared to offer an opinion as to value. He indignantly stated this was a Belgian crepe, with REAL maple syrup and everyone knows that an order of Belgian crêpes was only one crepe. He repeated his position several times, until our friend had to tell him he needed to leave, we were waiting for him. (We had not made any particular request to speak with the owner.) I guess the Belgian crêpes served at La Farandole must contain exotic and seriously expensive ingredients not known to the average person, and their REAL maple syrup must be of a far superior quality and cost than the REAL maple syrup the rest of us buy. And it would seem we’re not familiar with the special world of crepes, where the plural means singular. The owner clearly thinks little of his clients’ opinions and satisfaction, an anomaly in the restaurant world. At no time was our friend rude, impolite or loud in expressing his opinion. The server was mortified at the owner’s response and attitude. It certainly spoiled our visit to be treated by management in such a poor manner. Moral of the story: don’t complain about anything unless you want to be chewed out by management. Perhaps he prefers if customers just don’t come back.
