I started coming here for the cruffins about a year ago. They used to be a real treat, but during my most recent visit, I was disappointed the base of the cruffin was soggy, which made it feel not worth the $5+ price tag.nnAnother thing I’ve consistently noticed is the atmosphere. I never really feel welcomed here. The staff always seem too busy or focused on moving product rather than creating a friendly environment. It’s a bit off-putting and makes the overall experience less enjoyable.
The pastries are delicious. The food and the atmosphere are terrible. Staff are rude and abrupt. They should consider offering paper plates for some of the messier foods if you stay there to eat it. We asked and were told very clearly like Seinfeld’s soup guy “NO PLATES.” I was splitting a cruffin with my companion and they refused to cut it in half. Gave me a plastic knife to do it myself. They have a whole kitchen there and could have done a much better job of it with a pastry knife. There were enough staff working to accommodate cutting a pastry in half - I wasn’t asking one lonely person at the counter. Furthermore, when I saw the staff person making my tea, I could see she was handling the actual tea leaves with her hands, without gloves. That’s a yuck. Maybe if they had cut the pastry she would’ve used her bare hands? In any case, she said NO. I had to request for the plastic knife twice. The staff are just not nice, not just because I asked to have the cruffin cut in half, but even before I asked - they’re not polite or thoughtful, perhaps they behave in this entitled way like they’re doing you a favour by dropping your pastry in a paper envelope and taking your money. Even sitting there with a coffee & tea & 2 cruffins we split a 2nd one - they’re really good we felt unwelcome. The staff walks by and glares at you like you should leave. No smile, nothing. I regret selecting a tip when I made the purchase. The staff doesn’t deserve any tips.
When I visited Black Walnut Café in London, I was immediately struck by the cozy yet modern vibe. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee hit me as soon as I walked in, and the staff greeted me with genuine warmth. I opted for one of their brunch options—a perfect balance of fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Every bite felt thoughtful and satisfying, and the coffee was smooth and rich, just as you'd hope.nnThe service really stood out. It wasn’t just about speed, but the attentiveness. The staff made sure I felt comfortable, checking in just the right amount without being intrusive. I loved the café's minimalist design, which somehow felt both open and intimate. It’s the kind of place where you could easily lose track of time, either chatting with friends or just relaxing with a book. The overall atmosphere is so inviting, making it a place I'd happily return to whenever I’m in town.
I love the coffee here, smooth and aroma. On that day i chose coconut cream cruffin. My first bite was so delightful, cream is not too sweet and smooth. The coconut chunk is a bit too hard for me but I still enjoy it, will try other flavors next visits.
Such a cute cafe vibe this has .nTried their coconut bundt cake 5/5. Mac and cheese salad 5/5. Had ice tea it was so great without any sweeteners in it 5/5.nMust visit
