Just amazing. Have had my eye on this place since my mom moved to Carleton Place. Every expectation was met with the visit. We loved solving the puzzle that comprised the blind tasting menu. We had their four course offering but I have no doubt I will be back in the future for the seven course experience. The chef came out to explain each dish to the group of diners and it really made the experience feel so special and unique. The menu highlighted the flavours of the season spectacularly. Can't wait to come back.
My wife and I celebrated our 5 year anniversary at Black Tartan. Ian and team did a fantastic job making the evening special and memorable. The food overall was excellent and we had fun comparing what course was our favorite. My wife loved the wine pairing. I enjoyed the nice variety of draft beer selection. Definitely recommended for anyone wanting fine dining with a local flare. They change their menu once a month. We will be back.
Visiting from Alberta and my sister took me for the 5 course dinner. What an amazing and delicious meal. From the extraordinary delicate and delightful flavour of the soup and its crispy flourishes to every tiny detail of each dish - it was a tantalizing experience for the taste buds. Exquisitely presented. Outstanding experience! Absolutely loved the mind puzzler! Hope we win.... either way - we will be back.
Extraordinary! If you are passionate about food and looking for a unique experience, then Black Tartan Kitchen serves up a meal that no foodie should miss. There is no question that if the Michelin guide actually came to Canada that this restaurant would have at *least* one star. The food is playful, creative, flavourful and delicious. So much thought and effort goes into every course, it is simply a wonder that they are able to execute at such a high level across so many courses we participated in the 7 course blind tasting menu. Beyond the food, the service is impeccable, and head chef Ian Carswell was very responsive to a request for accommodation on the blind tasting menu, creating an alternative dish which was stunning. A very, very minor quibble literally the only negative I can think of - one of the bathrooms that my partner used during the meal was a bit of a mess. But that does not detract from an experience that is definitely top 3 in my lifetime, and that I'm sure I will be thinking about for years to come. The fact that the menu changes monthly makes me giddy to think that I can enter into a fresh experience the next time I make my way to Black Tartan Kitchen.
We can’t possibly say enough about the quality of food, drinks, service and environment at Black Tartan. We recently did the 7 Course Dinner and it was fantastic. If you want a really special dining experience, they won’t disappoint.
Amazing culinary experience. Each dish was a piece of art. We opted for the wine pairing with the 7 course blind menu, which complimented each course greatly. It's expensive, but you get what you pay for.Food: 5/5
I'm going to start by saying that both my boyfriend and I agree that it was an absolutely amazing anniversary. Eating at this restaurant wasn't only a unique and wonderful experience but the food was exquisite. All the flavors, sweetness, saltiness and so forth were incredibly well balanced. We enjoyed every bite. I decided to take part in the wine pairing which was on point and delicious. The chef coming out and explaining each meal and where it was locally sourced made us appreciate each bite that much more knowing that so much thought and love was put into each meal. This also gave the experience an extra touch. We will be back for sure and will be recommending this wonderful restaurant to everybody we know. Thank you Ian for such a fantastic anniversary evening
We loooove to eat out. Holy Guacamole !!!! This was crazy incredible! Ian and staff wowwwww we shall be back !!!!! French onion soup. Beets 3 ways. Duck and potatoes and super home made dessert and amaretto vodka cacao cocktail wohooo
Me and my boyfriend went back for our second time on New Years Eve. I was shocked that the owner/chef put on an even better experience then the time before. Honestly the food was incredible, lovely company, intimate setting. We are spoiled to have such a place in our small town.
We are glad that we tried this restaurant before Black Tartan is closed for renovation until Aug/Sept You can plug in to their Facebook page to get their latest update. It seems that their menu has changed since we had dinner there in Sept. 2019. They changed to a more upscale type of menu now and only offer 4-course or 7-course type menu with wine pairing. I think their specialty food foie gras, escargots, duck breast, steak-frites will still be included in the new menu. We had a good meal and I hope to go back to try their new menu after their renovation. Good job to bring a nice classic French bistro to Ottawa!
