Great store. Awesome staff. Bountiful selection. Also open to special order select DVDs/BluRays. Support this video store. Revel in classic cinema. Watch epic movies. Love Black Dog Video! Good dog!!
I love this store! As a cinephile, movie historian, and owner of more than 8,000 movies, this store provides me with more than enough selection of classic, contemporary, and hard-to-find films. The staff is friendly and extremely helpful. If you need a specific film not found in the store, they will gladly order it in for you. With video stores becoming something of past memory, I’m glad we still have stores like this that keep the tangible collecting tradition alive. Well done!
Great selection. Super friendly and helpful staff. Some really tough to find stuff. So much more fun than browsing the same 30 titles on Netflix.
I happened to just randomly find them by doing a Google search. I was experiencing a great deal of difficulty getting a DVD title via an e-commerce website. The service provided and reasonable prices followed by friendly staff will no doubt prompt me to shop here from now on.
Love coming here. The selection is awesome. While Netflix is good and all, nothing beats Black Dog's great selection on great foreign movies. I relish bringing my kid here to browse for kid movies. The experience is so much better than browsing endlessly online.
Good selection of films and tv shows, decent weekly deals, and staff that love film enough to have genuine feed back about recommendations. If you're the kind of person who wants to watch foreign and/or Indy films, this place is a good shout. It had selections of well made films you wont typically find on streaming services. My only issue is the prices, renting two films can run you the cost of paying for 1 month of a subscription service. You are paying for a well curated selection of harder to find films, but i would have liked it to be a touch cheaper.
Huge selection, excellent prices. And they can order Dvds and Blueray. Helpfull knowledgeable staff. My first choice on rainy days.
Can't believe I found this place! This must be the only movie rental place in the Lower Mainland - and conveniently on Cambie in Vancouver, well below 21st. I thought they were all gone. And frankly, I really miss Blockbuster's and Roger's Video Stores. It was fun for my guy and me to browse for a couple of videos to watch on a rainy Friday night, especially when the new movies looked slim. Black Dog has great hours, great atmosphere, great selection, easy to rent - what's not to love? Please, everyone, flock here, so we can keep the 2 remaining movie rental stores - the other Black Dog's at 1470 Commercial Dr - open!! Thought the end of Videomatica meant the end of movie rentals. Not so, happily. A shout out to Graham, Toulouse, my Cuz, and ghetto memories long gone. Black Dog Video rocks - great place!
I took a chance on Amazon.ca with a Criterion bluray of War and Peace--Bondarchuck's '66-67 adaptation. Nope. So I phoned Black Dog. Super nice, helpful. Picky me didn't want the 2016 rental, could I order the Bondardhuk? You could hear lots of customers. They took my number cause a lineup. Called right back. Could get the Bondarchuk, but alas, the same Criterion. apparently the BBC series is good... So I'm sold on Black Dog. Where else can you source classics? Unless of course it was a one off. I'll be checking Black Dog out in vivo soon!
Sadly the time has come that the owner decided to close up. I stopped in and bought a few DVDs recently. In June he will be selling all the rental DVDs so if you want to throw him some money stop in.
