This school is amazing if you're independent and responsible. If you need a traditional, structured learning environment this isn't the school for you.nI regularly missed 100 + days of school every year but still passed on time with a high average because I'm a self-directed learner.nThe self-directed learning skills the school nurtured would later go on to serve me in university and the professional world.nnShout out to Mr. McDougall who was always there to support his students.
Transferred to Bishop Carroll for grades 11 and 12 after being at Springbank Elementary, Middle School and High school from grades 4 through 10. Best decision I ever made. Proudly left on scholarship to University of Tennessee Southern formerly Martin Methodist after graduation. I will always support this school and am proud to have gone back to Coach the Senior Girls volleyball team, that I previously Captained.nnOutstanding school program if you are independent and self motivated, plus a strong sports program. Proud Cardinal!
I used to go here but I later transferred due to the amount of trauma and stress this schools staff have put on me. Sure there are teachers that I absolutely love, but some teachers ESPECIALLY the vice principal scolded a lot of students just for being behind by maybe like, one unit or assignment not being done. Don't recommend this school for those who have a delicate heart or struggle with depression, anxiety, etc. It will worsen your mental heath, like it did to mine. If negative stars were a thing on Google reviews, I'd definitely give some.
The teachers should genuinely put aside their personal opinions on students and focus on helping them with their work. They should know that every student has their own independent way of learning and if they ever needed help, the student should feel confident to ask their questions. Not only that, the teachers and even the vice principal should be more professional with the struggling students instead of scolding them and creating mental trauma. A student should feel comfortable talking to a teacher without worrying about where the conversation will lead. I don't think this school even deserves a star. I'm aware that they deal with teenagers, but they tend to forget that these are kids transitioning into adults. They tend to have delicate feelings and they always seem to assume their backstories. I strongly suggest either finding new teachers or talk to the current ones to change their ways of communicating with students and work on their obvious favoritism.
Hire some actual teachers !!!! Not just a fleet of abusive VP’s and upper management staff Ms. Young in the art room, iykyk to berate and abuse students for literally taking advantage of avenues offered by this SELF-DIRECTED school !!! : This school needs to hire teachers/staff accustomed to, and willing to work within the bounds of a self-directed program - NOT teachers/staff who continually try to turn this school into something it’s literally not.nnCan’t recommend the choral program enough - NOT the band program taught by some dude who took his undergrad in Hawaii, the CHORAL program taught by extremely competent and helpful staff members with international resumes. This school is definitely what you make of it, but if you find the right people/staff to guide you it can be phenomenal !! Don’t be afraid of self-advocacy; H2g that’s one of the only skills this school inadvertently teaches competently.
