Review of Birchwood Cafe in Yellowknife, Canada 4 StarsnnBirchwood Cafe is a charming spot and probably the best place in Yellowknife to grab a quality coffee. My wife and I stopped by for breakfast, and overall, it was a lovely experience with just a few minor points keeping it from being a full five stars.nnI ordered a hot vanilla latte, which was excellent—smooth, perfectly balanced, and just the right amount of sweetness. My wife opted for the iced vanilla latte, and she agreed it was just as fantastic. It’s clear they take their coffee seriously, and it shows in the taste and presentation.nnWe both tried the sausage breakfast sandwich on our first visit and it was fresh-tasting with quality ingredients. The bun was soft, the egg cooked perfectly, and the overall combination was satisfying. My only critique is that the sausage itself, while locally made a nice touch!, had a bit of a bland flavor that didn’t quite stand out. Still, I appreciated the effort to use locally sourced ingredients, which adds to the cafe’s charm and ethos.nnThe breakfast sandwich with bacon proves to be our favorite offering, just add cheese.nnOne downside to the experience was the lack of WiFi, which might be a drawback for those looking to work or linger while enjoying their coffee. However, the cozy ambiance and friendly staff made up for it, and it’s a great spot to relax and recharge.nnIn summary, Birchwood Cafe is a delightful place to enjoy a well-crafted coffee and a fresh, locally inspired meal. While the sausage wasn’t quite to my taste, everything else was excellent, and I’d definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Yellowknife. It’s a standout among local cafes and worth a visit.
This morning, March Nine 2025. We went to Birchwood for their Sunday brunch. We had the Full English BreakfastnnThe presentation was great and it looked really good. However, our food arrived iced cold not even just like lukewarm but ice cold and no salt or pepper on anything. Not sure if it’s really worth the $17 per Meal that we paidnnI’d have to think twice before I went back for another try
We are in town for Aurora viewing and found this local gem. Great coffee, great breakfast sandwiches! We had ours on sourdough. And their oatmeal chocolate chip cookie filled with chocolate chips, cranberry and pumpkin seeds are to die for. Especially if you get them fresh out of the oven!
We came to Yellowknife for a weekend and found this great cafe across from our hotel. The staff were super friendly, the pecan sticky bun was delish, and our barely was amazing and well priced!nnHighly recommend this local cafe!
Eric and the Birchwood team were awesome. I was visiting from Whitehorse and I am jealous - we need a Birchwood! I was there with a bunch of delegates from Nordic countries and we all appreciated the service and experience. Highly recommend!
