They have various Reptiles and Plenty of Aquatica animals. People who has a thing for fish, this place is for you. They also have Guinea Pigs and the staff is fantastic they'll suggest you what kind of food and tanks you'll need.
Plenty different type of Fishes also some interesting animals like Lizard,Turtles,Sea turtle so on….great for kids to get some starter fish. Stuff incredibly friendly they gave us amazing recommendations regarding our purchase.
Thanks Alex for about good service today Sunday October 30 2022 to help my daughter want choose about the goldfish colour pellet I knew that is cheap money goldfish, but Alex still happy service for my daughter. I wish give Alex 10 stars . The boss lucky when got Alex working in store . I came in store many time and all people in store very friendly note but today October 30 2022 , only 1 new guy is young guy fuzz blond hair serviced no good and not friendly to children , didn’t talked with form to cilents , the boss will be losses cilents from that guy fuzz blond hair
Update: Came in recently and was serviced by Alex D in the fish room. He was more than knowledgeable & escorted me to the many varieties of fish that I was interested in. What a nice guy. As well, the other day Alexis with the blue highlights in her hair was cool too. She was so friendly and gave me such nice service. I have decided to up my review from 3 to 4 stars. Thanks guys. Will be back again… Came in & purchased a defective air stone. Unfortunately, I had to come in a couple times to do an exchange to get the right working one. After the 3rd try I requested to the owner if I could test one to save time & he was kind enough to allow me to do so. After doing some testing at the store to confirm whether the air stone I had bought was really defective he confirmed it was & we found a working one. However, the owner accidentally handed me my defective one back but, he was considerate enough to go out of his way and offered to drive towards my location to drop the good one off. I would give them 5 stars but I’ve had some instances where I’ve came into the store & had a bit of a negative experience with a male employee working in the fish room. I’m not sure if it was the same employee I recently came across who had got irritated somehow because I asked a certain amount of questions when inquiring about some fish, where in that moment he was just responding to me too fast & I had kindly asked him to slow down, and in an unpleasant manner & I quote he responds with “hey you asked” when I was simply just trying to get some clear answers. I’m hoping the next time I come in though that I am serviced by Emily with the glasses. She is always kind to me & friendly when directing me to where certain products are located & assisting me on cash many times.
I grew up walking to Big Al's Mississauga as a child and teen and once I moved to KW after University, Big Al's Kitchener has been my favorite aquarium store. The people there really care about my fish and take time to help with any issues I have ever had, whether it is over the phone or in person. It feels like a home away from home. I an grateful to have such an amazing place so close to me.
Big Al's is the place to go for all your reptile needs. The staff are all friendly, knowledgeable and courteous. We were upgrading our tank for our red ear slider, and the staff went above and beyond to make sure that we were well looked after. Thank you for all of your help.
Be careful before purchasing their products. Put in a lot of consideration before choosing to spend your money here. They are considerate when it comes to exchanges however it is still a hassle coming here in the first place when you happen to come across items that just end up being defective. Waste of time. The service is a hit and miss too. Sometimes their helpful and sometimes they just stand around and you wonder why a store employs 4 employees at a time when half the time they just stand there or do useless tasks.
Pros: Great selection of fish - Their fish are second to none in the area. They always seem quite healthy and the store gets them from high quality suppliers. I've seen some other stores that can be pretty hit-or-miss, which is probably why you see so many employees here constantly working on the tanks. Employees are very helpful - They've helped me carry supplies out to my car, and they've given some great ideas on how to fix issues I've had Eg. Bladder snail infestation, pairings of fish to have in a tank, advice on plants, I pretty much could rely on them to tell me everything to get for my first tank. I have seen some reviews saying that the employees can be a bit curt and I understand what they mean, however I saw that more as trying to get to the point/identify the problem that you're having. They are very considerate and helpful, however they probably have heard a lot of the same questions and might want to offer a solution quickly They're the only store in the area that I've found that will re-home fish for you! I try not to have any overflow in my tank, however they were a great emergency backup when I had an unexpected baby boom Cons: They are a bit lacking in brand variety for some fish supplies so it's harder to shop around for prices, but they carry the most reputable brands. The store takes a while to get new stock of certain fish Eg. female guppies, assassin snails, however that's mostly because of the quality that they're looking for. They'll have most fish at all times, but some might take a couple weeks to get in. Summary: As a local fish store, they're incredible and they have everything you need; I'd take an hour drive there if I needed to, just call ahead if you need anything specific and less frequently bought, and make sure to check their hours.
I love Big Al's. It's clear that they are experts, but they'll talk to you on your level. Just getting started? Here's how you do that. Trying to do something fancy? They're there to support that too. Best aquatic pet store in the entire region.
I recently bought an Iguana from them as well as the tank and accessories for the iguana. The light fixture I purchased turned out to be too small for my 150 watt bulb bulb sticks out too far even though the packaging says that it can handle a 150 watt bulb. The bulb burned and partially melted a small part of my tanks lids screen. I brought this concern up to the staff at Big Als and sent then photos of what happened and in return I was basically accused of leaving my reptile tank open and setting the light on the trim of the tank causing it to burn. I take very good care of my animals and I would never leave my reptiles tank open or rest a hot light on the trim of the tank. That accusation made me feel very incompetent and I feel that any animal store should take this information seriously because something much worse could have happened. I was refused a refund for the light fixture to top it all off. To be honest the refund isn't what's important here, it's the fact that this happened and I feel as though it's not a big deal to them. I hope this information will prevent this from happening to someone else.
