Played just recently at Belmont...course in great summer shape. Fairways dry and greens were in good shape when we played last week. Had issues with waiting or slow play in the past, however saw course marshalls numerous times, active on the course, so that was good to see. Beer cart is available on course, although food shack is perfectly located on the 10th. Hole. Clubhouse is air conditioned, so we stayed and had a beer after the round. Belmont is a good course to play, and we will be back.
If they maintained this course properly, it would be top tier in the lower mainland. As we played it in early August, half the grass was dead and all but a few bunkers were hard as concrete. It made playing noticeably more difficult and unpleasant. That said, it is a pretty and challenging course.
Really fun golf course with great staff and stunning views. Some long par 3's but some other holes that are gettable. Greens were true and the fairways were great. Just wish the tee boxes were in better conditions, some were in really rough shape. Looking forward to playing there again.
It's a decent course - wish there was a proper driving range on site for a good warm up. Conditions are OK, but tee box maintenance could be improved. Set up can be challenging, especially with holes that have water in play. Overall a good experience, but there are some other courses nearby and up the road that I'd rather play at.
Played Belmont on Sept 6/22. Course was not in it’s best condition compared to prior rounds we’ve enjoyed here. We noted some overwatering in spots, resulting in pooling and soft ground, yet in many areas adjacent to fairways the ground was very hard due to the extended hot weather. Tee boxes were also very dry. Course will hopefully regain it’s former good condition with cooler weather and some precipitation
I understand that running a golf course is not an inexpensive thing. But my experience at Belmont was really underwhelming and a disappointment to say the least. Prime time green fee of $70 and cart fee took the total over $90 for a course that had more water in the bunkers than it looks like the fairways have ever had in the summer and it left a bitter feeling. Not a terrible layout and the greens were great, but I will definitely not go back.
3.5 actually. My first round there since the mid-90's and it was quite enjoyable. The course has grown up nicely. Greens were very nice - good speed and true. A few things I'd suggest: - some of the bunkers really need sand. I was only in 1 #16 and I was basically hitting off clay. - some more fairway yardage markers would be helpful and good for pace of play. 200, 150 and 100 aren't sufficient. - seems to me the course is perfect to set up a blue/white combo tee with its extremely long par 3's. - please reinstate the cart shuttle service to get players up the hills after 9 and 18. That is an extremely difficult walk and it would help pace of play. Overall it was a good morning and if I lived a little closer I'd play it more often. I forgot to mention a safety issue. The staircase leading up to the long par 5 tee box desperately needs to be replaced and have handrails added. I found it incredibly dangerous, especially because it was wet. My personal advice would be to shut down that tee box until you've built a new and much safer staircase.
Belmont Westcoast Golf should be ashamed to charge $91 for golf and cart for this course. The fairways were bare in many areas, some looked as though there had been some flooding. The bunkers that had sand in them had no rakes not one rake in any bunker. A number of bunkers have been let go to the point that they are now waste bunkers or "ground under repair." The snack shop had only hot dogs, no sandwiches. The patio and club restaurant is only open Friday through Sunday. All in all, a very disappointing experience. Will not go back.
Course is still a little wet and we were getting mud balls. June 21. Pace was alright but not great. We were a twosome with a twosome and a threesome in front. Took 4 hours and 10mins. To people saying walkers are slow they need to get there heads checked. Both groups in front were in carts and we were waiting on every tee. Carts were also allowed to drive anywhere. Greens were in excellent shape. Overall pretty good but the course could do with some improved drainage.
This course has been managed reasonably well for its price. However, I had very funny experience at Proshop at around 1:00pm tee time today. I booked for $60 in advance but its posted rate on the day has changed down to $50. I asked a Proshop staff to change it $50 as it was the current rate. The proshop employee said, "You cannot change airplane tickets on the day so we can't do it just like airlines. You pay $60 or go home." What a rude response to your valued customers who needs to play a golf game right away! Belmont may have lack of good employees due to Covid-19, however, this lack of customer caring and ruthless attitude shouldn't be tolerated by the management. It seems there is no management or leadership at Proshop even though it should be supervised closely as it is the first place where a customer and Belmont business meet. If there is, senior management need to figure out who the employee was and have him never stand in front of your valued customers again. After senior management looking into this case, a responsible person needs to make a sincere apology to your customer. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Later, Belmont understood the case, corrected the situation and made a sincere apology. So, I am changing the rating to 4 from 1.
