Basha (ou Pacha, en français) est un travail turc (pacha) d’origine persane (Padshah ou Padeshah) qui signifie roi. Les Turcs avaient pour habitude d’utiliser ce terme pour signifier et définir un haut rang dans le système politique de l’Empire ottoman réservé notamment aux gouverneurs ou aux généraux. Pacha était aussi un titre honorifique, l’équivalent de «Monseigneur». À l’origine, exclusivement, destiné aux commandants, le titre a été utilisé, plus tard, pour distinguer tout haut fonctionnaire ou toute autre personne que le tribunal avait décidé d’honorer.

Basha (or Pasha, in French) is a Turkish work (Pasha) of Persian origin (Padshah or Padeshah) which means king. The Turks used to use this term to signify and define a high rank in the political system of the Ottoman Empire reserved especially to governors or generals. Pasha was also an honorary title, the equivalent of "Monseigneur". Originally intended exclusively for commanders, the title was later used to distinguish any senior official or any other person whom the court had decided to honor.
