Barton Park

Story

The Clackamas River is an approximately 83mi tributary of the Willamette River in northwestern Oregon, in the United States. Draining an area of about 940sqmi, the Clackamas flows through mostly forested and rugged mountainous terrain in its upper reaches, and passes agricultural and urban areas in its lower third. The river rises in eastern Marion County, about 55mi east-southeast of Salem. The headwaters are on the slopes of Olallie Butte in the Mount Hood National Forest, about 10mi north of Mount Jefferson, at an elevation of 4909ft in the Cascade Range. The Clackamas flows briefly north and then flows northwest through the mountains, passing through North Fork Reservoir and Estacada. It then emerges from the mountains southeast of Portland. It joins the Willamette near Oregon City and forms the boundary between Oregon City and Gladstone. The Clackamas provides hydroelectric power and drinking water for some of the Portland metropolitan area, and it supports runs of Coho salmon, spring and fall Chinook salmon, and summer and winter steelhead. The river's old-growth forests, its habitat for several species of birds, its healthy fish runs, and the recreational opportunities that it provides—such as fishing and whitewater rafting—led to the designation of more than half of the length of the river into the National Wild and Scenic Rivers System (NWSRS). This environment also allowed Native Americans to settle in the river's basin as early as 10,000 years ago.

We stayed at Barton park for 2 nights. Tonight being the second of those 2. At 10:02 pm my dog started barking. He was tied up with only enough length to stay within our campsite. I got out of my camper to see what he was barking at and a strange young man (26 tops) was standing behind my camper. I walked up to see what he was doing and he says to me "Control your dog!" I said "He is on his leash." He then replies "Well quiet time is 10 o'clock and we have received several complaints." My only reply was "Seriously?" Then he sarcastically answered "Yeah, seriously!" I grabbed my dog and put him in the camper. My first thought is 'Wow! A hello would have been nice. Also how did you receive several complaints within 2 minutes of "quiet time" when he only started barking because you wandered up in the darkness?" Not one person here has said anything to my about my dog since I arrived. This young blonde man needs some training. My dog is a service animal and he did exactly what he is supposed to do. Besides providing a specific medical function that I would rather not share he had been fully trained to alert me when we are not safe. A strange man entering our campground in the dark without announcing himself would meet that specific criteria. I wouldn't recommend this place if you would like to feel safe in your mobile home.

Why hasn't Google implemented a zero or negative star rating?! This would be one of those places. By and far the younger summer staff they've hired are very friendly and respectful. The seniors that they have as live in tenants to monitor the campgrounds are NAZIS! We're scheduled to be here for a week in the east RV campground but after the lady in the golf cart has made her 3rd pass of the day. Her comments aren't exactly rude but they're definitely strongly undertoned and unappreciated. Parking a friend's car in the spot next to us who lives in the area and dropped by to visit for the day is not a crime. There are 50 RV spots and 5 or 6 have trailers in them but "at any moment someone could come to the park and rent that spot" so we had to move the car now! Amazingly it's the second day being here and nobody else has come in. Ironically 2 RVs have left. I'd hope because their vacation are over and not because of unfriendly run ins with the senior live ins. Hiring grumpy elderly to monitor your park is not a good policy even if you can't find a nursing home that will house them. I didn't come here on vacation to be harassed so a week has been cut short to one night and we're headed to the coast to find a friendlier camp sight. Good riddance and good bye!

Park host very nice and friendly. Range always tells you when the gate is closing at 10pm. Park very clean. We only reserved 3 sites; all 12 kids were happy including the adults! Mahalo!
