Beautiful park with nice campsites. Facilities are good for a campground and kept clean. Lots of trails in the park to walk. Nice beaches in the Georgian Bay on Lake Huron. Some rocky and some sandy. Water is nice. The park is very big so most park employees recommend driving everywhere but I walked everywhere to soak up all the nature. There is bears in the area so keep your food in your vehicle overnight, I didn't see one personally but when I asked a park employee they said they do come around. Mostly raccoons will be the first at your campsite but good camping etiquette is putting away food at night anyway and garbage. The campsites in the Bear Campground have a good canopy of trees almost no sun, all campgrounds have washrooms, water and showers. Mine also had laundry. Overall 5 stars for me. Beautiful area.
This is a truly magical provincial park. A disconnect from modern day. The non-electrical sites in Hawk are large and there is a significant distance from the neighboring site. They are still visible, but they are not on top of one another. This park is a driving park. Anywhere you want to go you will need to drive or bike. A path does connect all the different areas but at significant distance. Cell service was spotty at best, staff were helpful and pleasant when asking questions. The beaches were beautiful. Worth the time to check out! #localguides
Visited this place in the winter and it was decent. A good amount of trails to hike on. I decided to do the entire Bluff trail, which took about 3.5 hours to complete. While parts of the trail had some nice lookouts and forests, for the most part, there was not much to see and the trail was fairly easy. I was also a bit disappointed that they added some fairly pricey parking meters considering you can’t find anyone on premise.
We were at the Bear campsite. The registration process was very smooth and the park is very well maintained. The shower and washroom facilities were very good and cleaned every day. The roads were well paved. The parking for the beaches is a bit of walk. They have a pet beach, but the floor is pretty rocky. Beach 1 is closest to the parking but very busy, try beach 2 or 3 for quiet time. There is canoe rental facility, which operates in 2 slots of 4 hr each and is on first come first serve basis.
What a gorgeous park! Large and beautiful park with four beaches and several hiking trails with lookouts and lake.Camp sites are spacious. Great place for camping, enjoying the nature on your very private campsite. It's definitely on the top of our list. We will be back!
Wonderful place to visit but be prepared for some surprises. Campsites are not as big as in other parks and electric outlets are quite a distance from the tent/camper. Beaches are not as close as you would like and are narrow with rocks under the water. And when it says steep, it really is steep! But the scenery is making up for it. Beautiful trails, lots of wildlife, helpful and friendly staff. During our stay a person was lost and park rangers brought in OPP, K-9 units, and search and rescue team with drones and helicopter to look for him. They asked everyone to be on the lookout and after few hours he was found safe and sound but a distance from the park. Very well organized action. Also quick response to inquiries. We were missing a rack on the pit and asked for it and they promptly delivered it to us. But before booking please check your details: some campsites are allowed 2 parking spots while others are only allowed one plus offsite. Same goes for dogs. Overall we really enjoyed our stay
The beach is beautiful. To get to the nice, sandy area you have to walk for a bit, but is totally worth it. I had not seen water that clear in a while!
A lovey place with a few nice hikes. One around Kettle’s Lake an the other next to the beach. Loved the mix of Algonquin style forest hike and the rocky beach jumping from stone to stone in a single place. The beach is also dog friendly and many adore that place. While walking the trails o enjoyed a very relaxing vibe with strangers passing by and greeting kindly. These were great Thanksgivings moments. Don’t forget to pay the entrance fee or get the fine. Stay safe.
We visited Awenda for the first time- it’s quite nice in the winter, but trails and roads are not maintained so be aware that there are a lot icy surfaces. We didn’t ski, but that seems to be a popular activity. We wanted to walk to the beach but stopped halfway when the road leading down to the beach was covered in ice. Ice crampons may help! We’ll definitely return to explore more.. and especially in the summer!
Beautiful park during both summer and fall. A bit overcrowded in the summer,so if you plan to get in, go there early. Absolutely stunning in fall, quiet and peaceful. Perfect place to watch leaves fall and enjoy colors. Lunch on a Kettle Lake dock is a must, gorgeous spot! Office is closed for fall/winter operations, so make sure you pay entrance fee, otherwise you’ll get $50 ticket.
