My first thought of Aunt Gin's Restaurant was how cute it was inside. The second thought was how a bit pricey the menu was, but it also had a fairly large selection of items to choose from. I chose the Open Faced Turkey Sandwich and my husband chose the Open Faced Meatloaf Sandwich. I was so surprised with the meal that came out. Instead of one piece of toast, both our meals were on two pieces of deliciously toasted bread. Mine was heaped with stuffing loads of real turkey, not evenly sliced turkey but real chunks of both white and dark meat completely covered in a blanket of thick gravy. The smashed potatoes on the side still had their skins and the butter dribbling down the sides mixed nicely with the overflow of gravy. My husband's meatloaf had an interesting ingredient of red and orange bell peppers, which he said added a wonderful flavor, one he now wishes to add to his own meatloaf. We were both very impressed and pleased with our lunches today. The staff all wore masks, were very friendly and genuinely seemed pleased we chose to dine there today. I highly recommend this and look forward to going back to try their haddock chowder.
Talk about a hidden gem right out in the open! This adorable little home turned restaurant deserves more than the max 5 stars! The service is superb and the food is phenomenal! Couldn’t get anymore home cooking than this! Deliciousness overload! They also offer a full bar! And a dessert menu that will make your eyes pop!!! A must visit on your way south to Rockland or north to Augusta! Kid friendly!
Should have left when I walked in and it took several minutes for anyone to even acknowledge that I was standing there waiting to be seated. Really should have left when I saw that none of the staff were wearing face masks. I was seated at a table way too close to other diners, and none of their tables seemed to be spaced out or closed. I’m guessing they’re breaking some state rules but I was hungry and not much else around so I stayed. Dinner was okay, though the sole flavor of the French onion soup was salt, and tons of it. Didn’t get more water when I asked for it. Decided to have blueberry bread pudding for dessert, since I’m vacationing and thought it would be a nice taste of Maine. I got it to go because I couldn’t keep sitting there watching the wait staff serve food with no masks on. I have never seen bread pudding that was literally chunks of soggy bread. It honestly looked like it hadn’t been cooked at all. They hadn’t even warmed it up like I had asked for. I had a few bites, trying to get past the texture and that’s when I realized the blueberries weren’t even fresh. What kind of “home cooking” restaurant in Maine uses canned blueberries?!? Not even frozen ones, the tiny shriveled chewy fake blueberries that come in little tins in cheap muffin mixes. I hunted around for anything resembling a real blueberry and found what I took to be white chocolate chunks, but it was a little nugget of shortening or margarine! Absolutely revolting! $7 for soggy bread with fake blueberries and chunks of shortening?? Ugh. Save your money and get better food anywhere else.
Home made onion rings and hand cut French fries, seafood platter. Excellent meal
Hands down best Lobster Roll I have had!!! So Amazing. The roll was huge 8in, soft, and fresh. The lobster in the bottom was mixed in, what tasted like a mayo/basil type spread. It was sweet. Then topped w/ additional huge chunks of lobster w/ a side bowl of butter for dipping. It was to-die-for. Coleslaw also delicious and creamy. The inside of the restaurant is very nice, clean, comfortable seating, and everyone was super friendly. Will definitely be a regular from now on.
This place is awesome and complete with down home style food that taste great, generous portions.
Our experience at Aunt Gins was good. Overall I would definitely recommend the restaurant. The atmosphere was good, the lighting was good, the restaurant seemed clean and well kept, and the waitresses were polite and attentive. I had a chicken nugget plate that overall was good, large portions, and my only complaint was that the fries seemed a bit on the greasy side. My wife had the loaded nacho and unfortunately we were not impressed. We will definitely go back again but try other foods. I would definitely recommend this place but understand that my recommendation is based on only having been there once.
I wasn’t that impressed. We sat down and waited as people who came in after us was taken care of. They must’ve been regulars. I had the fish and chips. The coating was way over cooked but the onion rings were good. My daughter had pizza , the sauce was disgusting and the dough wasn’t cooked enough. Waste of money because she couldn’t eat it. My husband had the fried shrimp. The shrimp was very good! All in all I was not impressed at all. The wait staff was not very attentive either . The only reason why I have a 2 star was for the shrimp.
First time visiting this restaurant. Everything we ordered was fantastic! And it was nice and toasty in there. We will definitely be back! I had the seafood newburg, my husband had steak tips, my daughter had lasagna & son in law had a burger with a specialty sauce that he said was delicious! And the service was top notch and the owner also came over to our table and said hello! Great place with a great atmosphere!
The food was delicious. One of the best meals I have ever eaten. Our waitress, Kathy was so sweet. She brought our sons food out shortly after the appetizer, understanding that it is tough for a 2 year old to wait. Their is something on the menu for everyone
