I purchased this gorgeous Victorian mohair, pink lady slipper chair and am absolutely in LOVE! Beautiful products! I wish I could take the while store home!
I have been a client of Attica's for approximately three years; my dealings have always been the gentleman who works there, Fraser Keith - he is the primary finisher. His commitment to concerns and requests have always made him approachable with my directives on various projects at hand. With his attention to detail, exactitude and level of craftsmanship, it has retained me and my company as a very happy customer. I always enjoy seeing and doing business with Fraser - he's very upfront and honest with concerns he may have and most importantly delivers in a timely manner without grievance. Highly recommend.
I brought a very large heavily hand carved 1800s Belgian desk in for some restoration work due to the wood drying out. The top had split over the years so Andrew had a piece fit into the center then he hand carved the gedrunings on the end. He found a terrific piece of wood with similar grain to match as well as possible. Frasier refinished the top with a good matching color and the proper finish that would have been used in the day. Andrew designed a well thought out biscuit joint system to allow the top to move as it expands and contracts rather than splitting again. He also did other repairs to the desk that I was happy with as well. If I was to look for a flaw it would be the timeline, it took quite a while to get done but I understand this is normal for this type of work. I would use them again.
Attica Antique I went here with a set of expensive mid-century modern dining chairs that I spent $700 each. The wood was exotic, and you’re not able to buy them anymore. Moreover, a mint condition chair can demand upwards of $1000, so I wanted to keep them pristine to resell afterwards. I bought them in excellent condition, but one of the joints broke, and I thought it would be a good idea to have all of the joints tightened. I was encouraged when the owner, Andrew, told me that they’ve restores chairs like these before. Fast forward two months, and when the chairs come back all of the chairs are chipped at each joint area, onto of a sloppy dripping of resin dried hard on the seams. The bare wood shows at each chip, with the natural blonde wood color contrasting the dark stain of the chair. It was so obvious a mistake, I was shocked at how they just brought it back. Also, the resin dried in oozing streams at each joint—whoever did this didn’t even pay attention to wiping off the resin after the vice was set. I work with wood and I know how lazy and sloppy this job was. I was charged $500 for this hack job when it devalued my furniture by at least a thousand. This business has NAIT interns working at the wood shop, and I can’t help but feel that my chairs were given to a total novice with no idea on woodworking that proceeded to ruin each chair. Moreover, I don’t think anyone did a final inspection to see the total incompetence with two wood chippings on each chair one for each joint, and the resin oozing through the seams. So I sat on my chairs, and two of them broke while I sat on it, splitting the wood at each joint, so that the wood broke off. Coming here ruined my chairs even more. When I complained, Andrew refused to give me a refund, instead he said he would redo it. Definitely do not come here. I tried to research antique restoration places for Edmonton and did not find any for most places. This one, though, is a definite miss, and I learned the hard way. Total incompetence at the workshop and no supervision for these idiot interns.
Attica restored a family antique mahogany dining table for us, including creating leaves to replace those that were missing. They even created the tool needed to crank the table open. Very impressed & would go there again.
Garbage customer service. My rosewood table has been there a year and is still not finished. It is also impossible to get a straight answer from them as to when I can pick it up. Certainly wouldn't trust them with their close=out sale.
Third time going to Attica. Each time it was for very different jobs. SUPER grateful and satisfied with the outcomes: laquering of kitchen cabinet doors and drawer faces, refinishing a chair, and most recently refinishing a badly marked teak dining room table. Cudos you good, reliable workers/craftsmen.
W.O.W! What service! I inherited a dresser from my father that is over 100 years old. The finished product, fantastic, the customer experience, fantastic. Thanks to Fraser for bringing a piece of my family history back to life.
I brought in our antique table to be glued, it had come lose in spots , I picked it up one month later and nothing had been done on the table .. Dave was quite rude when I spoke to him on the phone re my table .. I would not recommend this business to have repairs done Sharon Koethler
