There was a wide range of pottery pieces and a nice environment. Loads of colors. Glass fusion class looks interesting. Friendly, knowledgeable teacher who is there to help but gives you plenty of space to make your own creation.
Brought my 6 and 10 year old here. We had such a great time we came back again. I was a little concerned after reading reviews but I have to tell you. I spoke with 2 female staff members as well as the owner John. All of them were very professional and kind. Even after I had a problem I phoned to talk about it and they help me out with no problems at all. I would recommend you go here and bring the kids along. You won't be disappointed....
Went here because of a groupon, but now regret it. It's an ok art studio, but be warned that your ceramic piece won't turn out the way you painted it. In fact both pieces that we bought had watery lines afterwards. Not happy with the end result! Better off to go to the Color Me Mine studio.
I've been twice for pottery painting and once for glass fusion. Lots of pottery choices, and reasonable prices. I got my pieces back quickly. Lots of glass fusion choices too, but I found the prices a bit high. The staff are friendly and super helpful. On one pottery piece, some black bits fell onto my plate in the kiln. When I showed the owner, he apologized saying he checks each piece and somehow missed it. So he kept the piece, and fixed the damage. I got it back 3 days later and you couldn't tell anything had been repaired, it looked perfect!
Artopia staff and products/services offered are fantastic! This has become a 'happy place' for me to de-stress and also allow my creative juices to flow. I have done ceramic paintings and glass fusing, and would recommend to anyone! They were so kind and generous when their kiln unfortunately malfunctioned with my project inside, offering me either a refund or to recreate. I chose to recreate, and sadly, it cracked while being fired due to the placement and size of certain glass pieces I used. They were so sweet to try and recreate the piece for me, but again offered to allow me to recreate, which I did. I absolutely love my new holey bowl - and it has a great story to tell, now! I frequent Artopia and bring all my friends there. It's always fun!
We had the most amazing experience. Our daughter is only 7 and Nicole helped her make some truly beautiful glass fusion pieces. And I also did a large glass fusion piece for our ensuite bathroom. And her cousins painted ceramics. We thought we would only be there an hour...but time literally just slipped away. I can not wait to go back! Thank you artopia for making our trip to Calgary for Easter so much fun and educational!
We had a birthday party here for our 6 year old this past weekend, and it was a hit! The kids made fused glass nightlights - something exciting and new for bday parties - and the woman who helped us, Cathy, was amazing. Parents: you will need to be involved, but the kids love it and it's tonnes of fun. The price is right too - we had 6 kids for 2 hours were able to bring our own food and cake and had space for food and presents for an hour for $150. This includes the nightlights - everything! Unheard of. Don't change a thing, Artopia; some of us parents are coming back for date nights!
My boyfriend and I bought the Groupon for Glass Fusion. We had a great time so we bought another Groupon for Ceramic Painting. Both were great experiences, especially considering our questionable artistic abilities. The flexibility of dates/times for classes was appreciated + the variety and options for ceramic painting were exceptional. Had a great time, prices were fair and you get your artwork back quickly! Makenzie was great in teaching us how to use the tools and techniques to create a Bob Ross glass fusion plate, really knowledgeable & nice & creates a welcoming atmosphere. Recommend it for all!
The owner is super grumpy! The glass bits used for fusion are so small that it's difficult to create a half decent piece of art. They have a great array of sample pieces, but few are attainable since they no longer carry certain colors or pieces bigger than 1x1 inch. You're basically working with little chips of glass. It's also very expensive!! The average cost is about $75. The store is really dingey and doesn't take credit cards.
We purchased a groupon for an hour pottery class but was not made aware that there would be additional charges beside taxes and gratuities you are also charged to have it fired in the kiln - necessary if you want the pottery and paint to set that was an extra $30 on top of what was already paid. Once you get your pots done, they call you back in so you can paint what you made, after that they need to fire it to set your pot before it can be picked up. I've painted the pot almost two months ago and still have not received a call for pick up yet. In total the process for the pottery is taking about a long time to complete. To top it off, the owner is not pleasant to deal with, is rude on the phone and upon any interaction in the store. The teachers however are younger and nicer to work with.
