this was a dining experience that would rival any top restaurant, anywhere on the planet. The dinner and each component was perfect. the selections for the menu and wines are not extensive nor do they need to be. We ate in the loft. also relaxing with a drink on the deck before hand which is key to the experience. All staff are experienced and so nice.
Probably the best restaurant in Newfoundland. Reservations are a must. We have patronized this cozy restaurant multiple times and have yet to be anything less than impressed. It's a fixed menu and price with a fish and meat option every time. The service is impeccable and the wine list is excellent.
Loved our meal here! The service, communication, and attention to detail are appreciated. Quality and quantity were both perfect and the service was friendly and helpful. Able to accommodate allergies and intolerances even with the set menu approach. Definitely recommend!
Great place to dine, have a few drinks during "Happy hour" and get a bit of tourist information. The dinner is a set menu so may not appeal to children but the food is excellent and features typical Newfoundland ingredients. The beer selection is quite good offering a selection of beers from Quidi Vidi brewery. If you drop by during happy hour you can enjoy it in the upstairs loft or on the deck outside.. .blankets are provided by the restaurant if you choose the deck option. The view is spectacular and the restaurant has a quaint and traditional feel to it. There is a lot of tourist information in the upstairs loft and the staff are quite good in helping you get your bearings.
The place had a wonderful atmosphere and the food was very solid and we enjoyed our meal, we just felt it was a tad bit pricey for what you got we go to a lot of fine dining restaurants on our travels . Well worth going if you don't mind the cost.
We had a lovely evening at the Twine Loft, starting with drinks on the sunny back patio gorgeous and including our great 3-course meal. Our mains pork & salmon were fantastic! Generous portions and full of flavor. Dessert was a bread pudding that was so nice you had to finish it even though you knew you would be too full know what I mean? For $60 each we also thought it was great value especially given the kind service. So glad we visited!
We made reservations here because we were staying in one of their rentals. We had such a lovely evening here, it was awesome. We knew ahead that because of the small number of people they cook for, the options are very limited, but we both really enjoyed our selections. The ambience is so charming and romantic, and the staff/service was excellent.
Let me start by saying that my expectations for the Twine Loft were not at all lofty going in. But ultimately, overall I was very pleasantly surprised. Pre-meal cocktails on the outside deck, nicely appointed with the requisite fishing equipment and nets. It was quite lovely to watch the sun set over the water and enjoy the conversation prior to our service. And right on time, we were invited to our table inside. Again the dining room was nicely appointed with a marine theme, including oil lamps on each table, a nice touch. Initially, the service was rushed and bordering on intrusive, but improved steadily as the evening went on. The first course was a slightly under-seasoned and underwhelming Turnip-apple soup, which had potential to be stellar but just didn't quite achieve. Between courses I had an opportunity to visit the washroom facilities, which firstly are actually and oddly outside the restaurant, in a separate building! While clean and functional, the amenities were a tad provincial, with a roll of kitchen towels on the wall, and Costco kitchen bags lining the large waste bin. Yikes. On to the rest of the meal. Our main course was a delightfully poached cod, en papillot. Superbly cooked, nicely seasoned, sublimely fresh and exquisitely textured. I'll submit to you that it was... I must consider these words carefully... yes, the best cod that I've EVER had. The accompaniments consisted of beautifully roasted lemon finglerlings and perfectly sautéed asparagus. An exceptional dish. A mini pecan pie completed the three courses, and while attractive and sweet, it was a little too heavy following the lightness of the seafood. Now, did I mention? All of this for a mere $55 cdn. Amazing. Our waiter was attentive during the service, and although, as I mentioned, initially rushed, paced the service quite well. And graciously shared a personal 'story' with us that made the event that much more genuine. Thank you Glenn!! Overall, extremely well done Twine Loft. Congrats to the chef, Glenn, and the entire staff for a memorable meal and evening. Cheers.
I had mixed reviews about this place. We ate here recently and though we liked it, weren't blown away by it. They are very kind people and put a lot of effort into what they do. However, for the price tag. You would expect more. We paid less in St John's for WAY more food at a higher quality level. I also don't understand why you have to select your option by noon, and cannot change it. This is a restaurant, even if it had a limited menu, you would think that they would be flexible given the few options. In terms of the ambiance, downstairs has a nice cozy feel. However, the upstairs is very informal. Once again, a bit of a let down if you are expecting high class dining. The servers themselves are very kind, but don't have much insight into the wines so if you are looking for any recommendations, they wouldn't be able to help you out. Basically, it a 5* price tag with 3* delivery. We made the best out of our visit, but wouldn't say it was the highlight restaurant. It is the best in the area, but not the best food overall.
Went there for a celebration. They were very accommodating, and attentive to the details. Food was amazing, service outstanding, place is well taken care. I will return and send people there. 10 stars rating
