I had a friend rave about this place. It’s a nice place that’s hidden among more commercial buildings so it was a nice surprise when I actually went in. First, booking online was an absolute nightmare. My friend and I did t over 2 hours trying to figure out what was wrong with us and why two brains couldn’t figure this out. I had to call to book the next day. Next, there were miscommunication issues about pricing between what was said and what took place when we arrived. There just seems to be so much confusion. No one showed us around the spa. There was a lady in the change room who actually was explaining to new people how everything worked and tips and tricks about the lockers, etc.. We felt staff should have told us that info. The facilities itself was good. Lots of steam rooms, cold showers in between. There was someone always there making sure everything was working and refilling the cold cloths.nnI had a treatment with Maria. It was good for what I paid. After we were told we could go in the lounge area for a glass of wine. After 10 min, she came out with a sip of wine for me because the corkscrew broke whatever implement she needed. I then saw another couple come out of a different room with FULL glasses of wine. The whole thing seemed wrong and not professional.nnI would go back for the saunas but I would not book online.
Edit: Came back on Sunday and had better experience with reception. I think there was only one staff there that most people from reviews here complain about.nnAs mentioned before, I highly recommend Maria P. for facial as she does extractions compared to others who don't others just put product after product on your face.nnFor massage, I highly recommend Alex for those who need good deep tissue massage. He knows what areas to focus on as soon as he puts his hands on you. He spends good amount of time on problem areas and maximizes every minute of the treatment.nn2 hour sauna pass as a free addition to treatments are alway great, as well as the refreshments in their treatment lounge.nnDownside: Their online booking system is not user-friendly. I was trying to book couples massage and it keeps assigning the next person to a different room after you choose the couples room for the first booking. I ended up having to call to book which defeats the purpose of online booking and the convenience that it's supposed to bring.
Great facility! Art of Sauna is truly a hidden gem on the boarder of Burnaby and New Westminster! This is such an elegant, relaxing experience from the steam rooms, and dry sauna. I visited the Center, and it was exceptionally clean. The staff was welcoming and had a great attitude. The total experience was incredible! Price is great, and they have whisk/venik for sale at reasonable pricing. Thank you to every one!nNicknOwner of HRB home remodeling.
Cool spot for a Nordic/Scandinavian spa experience but for much cheaper! The two hours will fly by. Just make sure to arrive prepared with everything you need water, swimsuit, flip flops, spare towel if you prefer. It’s a quiet space as well so keep that in mind… you’ll definitely relax while here, though
I was excited to try Art of Sauna, because the spa scene in Vancouver is so sparse. I went here for a sauna and massage treatment. I won’t be going back.nnFirst, the customer service at the front desk was not great when I came in. It came off as unprofessional and extremely casual, with one front desk lady coming off as annoyed and condescending with every act of checking me in and completing my waiver. They also knew it was my first time but rushed through the explanation of how everything worked so I still found myself confused about navigating the place, what was protocol, etc. I ended up talking to someone who was more of a regular in the locker room, and they helped me out - shoutout to that stranger. Not a good start though.nnSecond, the website makes it look like there is a selection of 8 beautiful sauna rooms to choose from. Actually, it’s more like 4 sauna rooms I guess, with most of them being pretty much the same as other rooms, just with different decorations, tiling, and slightly different scents. Be warned, the rooms aren’t that big so when it’s busy, it starts to feel crowded fast. I thought the cold plunge showers were a nice addition. Also, there’s a table advertising refreshments but during my 2 hours at the sauna they were never replenished. It wasn’t even that busy when I went.nnFinally, my time for my massage. I waited in the treatment waiting room area before the massage, which was kind of nice. They had a measly selection of snacks and what was supposed to be lavender water ? but it tasted weirdly sweet and artificial, couldn’t taste the lavender at all. The massage itself was good, until near the end of my massage my therapist starts rubbing my legs and goes way too close to my groin. Never had that happen to me with a professional massage before, so that was a huge no-no. Fortunately, he stopped when I mentioned it. I’ll never know if it was just an accident or something more. I don’t care to find out anymore, and I’ll never be going back.nnTake from this what you will.
