We picked up the Big Bang brisket meal and a pound of smoked pork ribs for dinner tonight and everything was amazing. There was unexpected heat hiding in something the coleslaw? and that's fine as both of us like some spice. I mean, there are hot peppers garnishing the meats, so maybe it's in there, but I swear it was the coleslaw. No complaints, just surprised. The brisket was tender and flavourful and the ribs had some nice chew to them, just the right amount, and the portions were really generous. The included sides rice and peas, coleslaw, mac 'n cheese and the cornbread rounded everything out beautifully. Trevor, the owner, was extremely friendly and welcoming. Great experience. Also, the cornbread has some "fall" flavouring to it, very tasty and different from the usual. Overall great dinner. You get a lot of food for a fair price and friendly service as a bonus. Thank you!
I have been wanting to try out beef rib eye for so long and this was my first time in Canada. I ordered King rib eye and soul park sandwich , both were damn good. The meat was really juicy and the gravy was really tasty. The owner really loves his job and is so welcoming. Definitely recommend everyone to try it out.
Great place!! The portion sizes were huge, food was excellently seasoned, and the value for the serving size is great. The owner is very nice too. I got the pork butt dinner and it was very tasty and filling. Very close to the Bluffs too!
I had a unique experience when we asked for the bill. Instead of a regular bill, the owner scribbled the items we ordered on paper for himself. What's more, he calculated for us how much it would be if the tip was 20%. The food was about $170, so a 20% tip made the total amount over $200. Engaging with him in this conversation was the only way I could review the total amount and tip. In our case, it was a non-issue because the service was excellent, and 20% was exactly how much we wanted to give as a tip. Still, I wished I had been offered a more discreet way to review the final bill and the appropriate tip amount. We were a group of three dining in. We got a pound of brisket, ribeye, lamb, fried chicken, and sides. We got the cornbread. It had a hint of cinnamon, making it feel like eating pumpkin bread. It was warm and got our appetites working. The meats were overall tender and very saucy. I nibbled on the red pepper to add some heat. I also enjoyed the fried chicken. It looked dark outside but perfectly cooked and had juicy meat inside. Coleslaw "Soulslaw" was a-ok. It was a plate of chopped veggies with dressing. Rice had beans in it and was covered with gravy. I would say everything was quite well seasoned. I enjoyed my time here.
I've been anticipating Trevor's restaurant since reading about it in BlogTO, and it did not disappoint. The smoked chicken dinner came in a box, with additional tubs of accompanying sides of Soulslaw coleslaw, and rice and peas. The smokey flavor is the money, even when the BBQ meats are finished in the wok. The sauce is very flavorful, generously spiced with a bit of tang possibly from Worcester sauce. Topped with raw, sweet white onions for contrast. The Soulslaw was crispy, and delicious; it surprises you with cuts of Vietnamese chili peppers. The rice and peas were soft, and full of meaty flavor or broth—addictive. My additional collard greens were warm, contained some turkey* and was delicious although a bit salty for me. Chef and owner Trevor, and his brother, Rocky, are extremely warm, welcoming and hospitable. They care a lot about their guests—you can taste it in the food. The prices are reasonable considering the amount of care, and time they've committed to cooking the ingredients— up to 20hrs of smoking! I'm still smelling and craving it the next morning. I look forward to eating more of their menu, and the musical events they're hosting for local talent. Good audio/visual quality.
Greatly disappointed 2stars because if the brisket which was really good but really cold. The rice and peas was burnt and couldn’t even taste the flavor The coleslaw was super sweet And the Mac and cheese was so dry.
I went there for the first time for take out because I was in the neighborhood. Great food , the meat was well seasoned, the rice and coleslaw was fiiiiine. The quantity was enough for two person.. I will definitely come back Also if you appreciate black art you will love this cosy restaurant
I wanted to write a review on this wonderful restaurant located at Kingston Road and Midland called the Art of Barbecue. For those of you that may know Kingston Road and Midland, there are many small stores quite eclectic in nature. I almost never shop on Kingston Road but heard about this place and its food and thought, why not? First, the ambience is very nice and there are a lot of paintings and photographs which makes it warm and welcoming, when you walk in. The owner is absolutely wonderful to talk to and engages you in a way that makes it comfortable, relaxed and warm. I have ordered a few dishes now mainly, the Smoked chicken 1lb, the Jerk Chicken and a beef ribs. The meat is slow cooked for days with a likeness to Southern cooking. If you're buying a dinner, then the meal comes with rice and Peas and soul slaw. The "soul slaw" is their version of coleslaw and is so tasty. Everything I have tried is really well done, but I really love the smoked chicken. It's my favorite and now I'm so addicted to having it frequently. I absolutely recommend this hidden gem and really hope they stay forever in the neighborhood. Oh, and this is a great option if you want to serve guests a catered meal. I did and it worked out just fine. In terms of price, a meal costs anywhere from $20- 35 depending on what you're getting. Try the Art of Barbecue! You will have no regrets!
The food is amazing! My new favorite restaurant. Ordered the brisket, rice with beans, soulslaw and mac n cheese. The brisket was awesome, tender and with a nice bark. The sauce was perfect! The rice with beans and the soulslaw was amazing tooo. The restaurant is nice, welcoming and warm place. Special shoutout to owner who was really friendly. Will definitely come back to try more!
Cornbread microwaved to warm it left the bread very dry & crumbly when it cooled. Just way too much sauce on everything, can't taste the meat at all when it's smothered like that. Jerk wings taste great but again smothered in sauce. The owner is very personable and seems genuinely happy. Reasonable price for BBQ...it's takes many hours of work to prep & cook so for me I didn't mind the price!
