Totally enjoyed our visit. The Emily Carr and the "blue and white" displays were quite interesting. The other fine collections in the gallery were also fascinating. The staffs were very nice. We had a pleasant chat with an enthusiastic curator who told us a lot about the elegant house at the gallery as part of the collection.
Enjoyed my visit and reasonable entrance fee - it's larger than I expected. I spent about 45-60 minutes going through all the exhibits. Quick bus ride from downtown.
Almost fell asleep! For many years I was a member of Art Gallery Of Victoria, But since covid 19 started, I have not visited the art gallery. It was so quiet, and relaxing in the gallery, that I almost fell asleep at the bench. I have been lucky, and grateful to have visited the national gallery of seven different countries. I must say that the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria does not disappoint. The gallery feels at par with those national galleries, But at a smaller scale. It is well worth the visit. I do suggest reading about the artists on display prior to the visit, to better interpret there work. Thanks.
Located in a quiet neighborhood, this gallery+museum is certainly a pleasure to visit. Great place to learn about local artists and their works. Miscellaneous collections of handcrafts. Also many pieces from Asian countries. Good opportunity for local people to get a glimpse of the history of the far East. The space is well organized, with clear visiting route. The staff is friendly and helpful.
This is one place we go to again and again. There are always interesting exhibits to see. Sometimes, there are even interactive or hands-on demos. In the shop, you can always find a unique gift or or a treasure to take home. Well worth a visit! Check the website for information of current exhibits and for directions to get to the gallery.
This art gallery continues to be a huge disappointment. I’ve been four times and each time I go, I’m reminded of the stupendous mediocrity of every piece of art on exhibit.
Joined as a member a few years ago to enjoy the diversity of their curated exhibitions. One of the most soothing places in Victoria to contemplate our hectic world and appreciate the beauty of art and what it can reveal. An amazing location to enjoy art and a stroll in the Japanese garden is a worthwhile addition to any trip.
Finding shapes and odd perspectives in the permanent displays of the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria located in the historic Spencer Mansion built in 1889.
The volunteers are exceptional, very helpful and informative. The gallery is a dynamic and interesting place.
We visit the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria every year when we come in March. The a Asian collection is like no other, and the exhibits change. The Emily Carr exhibit is always a treat. The old mansion is beautiful and the gardens add to the special setting.
