I was deeply disappointed by the experience of my stay here. Upon arrival, the owner made it extremely difficult for me and my friends to check in, instead of explaining how the reservation and check in works, he was racist toward my friend and became verbally aggressive.nnThe room condition was very poor. When we politely raised our concerns with the management, the owner responded in an extremely unprofessional and disrespectful manner. This was shocking and unacceptable behavior from anyone, let alone a business owner.nnI’m sharing this review to caution others and to urge the management to reflect on how they treat their guests. Everyone deserves to be treated with respect and fairness.
Horrible Experience — Avoid This Hotel at All COSTnnI had one of the worst hotel experiences of my life at Arnprior Hotel. The issues started even before check-in. I booked my stay through Expedia with a Visa debit card, and before I even arrived, the owner called me saying he couldn’t process the payment. When I arrived and tried to explain that I reserved with a Visa debit and that Expedia accepted the card, he became very aggressive, slammed my card on the counter, and accused me of committing fraud. My two friends had to step in because the situation got so heated.nnWe were exhausted after a long drive and had no other hotel options as everything in driving distance was fully booked, so we decided to stay the night. The room was filthy — the towels were dirty, and the smoke/alarm sensor kept beeping all night due to a low battery and started beeping after we slept. None of us could sleep. As a group of women, we didn’t feel safe going to the front desk in the middle of the night to complain.nnIn the morning, when we asked for some kind of compensation, the owner began yelling again, telling us to “get out” and threatening to call the police. We calmly told him to go ahead, and everything was caught on camera. This owner lunged at me to try to take the phone away from me because I started recording him because of his behaviour. We couldn’t wait for the police as we had to leave for our rafting trip and saw the police arrive as we were leaving. The entire experience was stressful, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone — extremely poor customer service, unsafe atmosphere, and dirty rooms. If I could give zero stars, I would.nnPhoto attached is the owner wife pulling him away from us after he attacked us
This happened 3+ years ago, but I never got around to leaving a review. I feel I should.nnOriginally from Arnprior, I was in town visiting with some good friends, also from out of town, and 2 out of the 4 of us decided to book a room here. We went out to dinner at The Prior and not realizing they changed their hours, they closed pretty early and we all weren’t ready to say our goodbyes yet. My friend and I decided to invite our two other friends to our room for a drink and a bit more socializing.nnWe arrived back at the motel between 8-8:30pm. My friend was carrying a 6-pack of beer to share between the four of us. Again, only a 6-pack. They were not intending to stay the night with us, we were just enjoying each other’s company before the other two ladies headed to their own accommodations.nnThe owner must seen us walk up with the 6-pack and the two other ladies because immediately as we got to our room the phone was ringing. I answered and the man said that the two other girls had to leave right away and that there is “no partying allowed.” First of all, we’re all in our 30s, we have a 6-pack, and it was 8:30pm at night. I kindly explained to him that the ladies were only here for ONE drink and then parting ways. We just have not seen each other in a long time and didn’t want the evening to end just yet. There was going to be no partying going on and we would be respectful.nnWell, the owner was NOT having it. He continued to call and berate us, so then we just said “screw it” and decided to pack our things to leave. Well, before we could even gather all of our things to go, the owner and his wife I’m assuming, start banging on the door. My friend opened the door and the owner was trying to push his way inside to berate us some more and telling us to leave. Mind you, this whole time we were being quiet and respectful before they arrived.nnAfter, we gathered our things and left. Luckily the owner did give me a refund, but still. I found this very odd for a motel to do.nnI would totally understand if we were being drunk and obnoxious, being loud or indeed having a party, but we weren’t. We were just four 30-something-year-olds trying to get one last hour in before we all parted ways.
When I arrived to check in, I couldn’t access the front desk through the front door as there was wet cement along the whole left side of the motel. There was no signage nor was there anything barricading the wet cement at the door. I had to call their number to let them know I was there. I was greeted by a worker who led me down a small staircase on the far right side of the motel into the unfinished basement, and back up another staircase into the front desk area. I booked and paid in full for three nights. As I entered the room, I was hit with an overwhelming smell of mothballs. The room I was put in did not have a lock on the inside yet you could see where a chain lock had been ripped out. The bathroom was small with the sink located outside the bathroom door. There was a baseboard heater that ran from the area where the sink is, through a small hole in the wall into the main bathroom area. The bathroom tiles, grout, and shower caulking were dirty.nUpon my second day, I was approached by the owner while outside and he stated that I would need to move rooms the following day due to construction. The next morning I packed up and asked the owner which room I will be moved to, his response was that there were no rooms available. I had to call the front desk and demand that I get a refund for the third night that I would not be able to stay for due to their lack of availability. The construction work was clearly already planned yet they accepted my booking for three nights. Upon checking out, I was given the refund for the night I was not able to stay, and the owner said goodbye. This is when I realized he did not give me back my security deposit. When I mentioned this, he said “give me a minute” with a rude tone and handed me my money owed. If I did not mention this, I highly believe the business would have pocketed the $200 cash deposit I paid. I would never recommend for someone to stay at this motel.nThis business is run in a dishonest, abrupt, and deceitful manner. For $105 a night, I should at least be able to lock my door from the inside.nA few things to mention: the walls are paper thin, you can hear water dripping in the wall when it rains, also the TV inputs don’t work, however the bed was semi comfortable. I felt very uncomfortable knowing I was not able to lock my door yet the staff have master keys.
This was a great place to stay for the night, and we have no complaints. We were pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness, comfort, and upkeep of the room. It was freshly painted, well-decorated, and thoughtfully maintained. The spacious parking lot and new walkway were also nice touches. The room had everything we needed, and the staff was friendly and accommodating. With plenty of hot water and convenient access to nearby fast food options, this spot offers excellent value. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and the price was very reasonable.
