Incredible location on the water and the food matches with great quality and presentation. The wine was the only okay thing on the menu I tried. The smoked salmon app was so good that I would come back solely for that dish alone. The whitefish entree was amazing and I was so bummed that I didn't have enough room in my stomach to finish it because it was worth it. Equally amazing and a surprising treat was the veggie skewers. The had great flavor and we perfectly done. I cannot wait to return. There is a 20% fee added to your bill to split between all workers, which I like so all workers get tipped, yet I'd like to know if I tipped more that it would go directly to my server because she was amazing.
The ambiance and view are fantastic! It was so relaxing to look out on the lake as we ate. Staff was for the most part friendly and helpful, but our server seemed disinterested in being attentive, especially after we sent back an appetizer. The fried fish bites and salad were excellent, but the crayfish and fritters were not what I would expect for the price. Parking: Adequate street parking close by, but no specific designated parking lot for this establishment. Wheelchair accessibility: Winding, well landscaped abd maintained ramp from street to building is easily navigated, especially with assistance.
Arrived a hungry trout - left a happy trout. Food was very fresh and tasted phenomenal. Would highly recommend if you’re in the Grand Marais area. Great location right in the harbor. We got the fish chowder sockeye salmon and herring with salad & pasta and a herring with salad & wild rice. All 3 were delicious. Definitely coming back!
The fish of the day was grilled lake trout and it was cooked to perfection and served up with a fresh and tasty salad, wild rice, and grilled asparagus. My wife got the pasta option instead of the wild rice. The window seat offered an unobstructed view of Lake Superior. Service was friendly. Portions are generous. When the warmer temperatures finally arrive, the outdoor seating on the dock will be an added plus to the dining experience. They have unobtrusive air purifiers scattered throughout the indoor space and helpful spacing between tables. They clearly care about the peace of mind and well-being of those who dine there. Note: they automatically add 20% to the final bill for all purchases that is then shared with the staff. There is no need to add an additional tip to the meal. If I had a complaint or recommendation to make to the owners, it would be to simply add the 20% to the menu items and tell customers that it is a no-tip restaurant. A mandatory 20% gratuity seems a complicated way to do this.
Great restaurant right down on the harbor. The staff was very friendly and the view was awesome. The food was very good. I had the fish and chips, made with fresh caught Herring from the lake that morning. Herring? It was really good. They also make their own soda. The diet cola had a unique taste that was really yummy. The one down side was the entrance. While it is wheelchair accessible, you have to walk down a long, weaving walkway. I was with people who don't walk like they used to. It was difficult for them I still strongly recommend this restaurant. Enjoy!
The place was recommended by a friend, husband and I ordered today's catch! The fish was delicious and fresh! The salad is very fresh too! We were warned it was chilly sitting outside, a pot of hot tea kept us warm. Highly recommend!
Always amazing food and service even if you have to wait for it! The grilled whitefish sandwich with waffle fries is the best! Tartar sauce has dill in it which is lovely. Even their salad is always great!
Well worth the hour wait time! An added plus was, they text you when your table is ready so, you can explore the beach and sights while you wait. The fresh salad was absolutely delicious. They use all local produce and fish. I cannot say enough about their food! I just want more!! Living in Iowa we do not have a lot of fresh fish options so having this whitefish cooked to perfection was amazing! Everyone should give them a try when in Grand Marais. You will not be disappointed!
After eating mostly greasy diner food up the north shore, we stopped in because of the amazing salad pictures. Wow. They did not disappoint. Fish of the day was fresh lake trout, paired with an incredible mustard dressing and humongous fresh greens salad. The outside seating was clean and breezy, the perfect place drink a pot of tea while we waited for the food to come out. There is an automatic 20% gratuity added to all orders, so we didn’t feel the need to tip additionally. Staff were great and friendly, and one the the few places where masks were still consistently worn indoors by workers.
I don’t want to give this place an awesome review, because that means more people will go there and make it even harder for me to get a table…sigh… Anyways - what a meal! Fresh Lake Herring fried or grilled, I chose fried on a bed of wild rice, seasonal greens and asparagus. *chefs kiss* It was a perfect meal. Amazing view. Excellent service our server was welcoming, attentive and drinks/food arrived rapidly. I’d give it 6 stars if I could. Not to be missed when in GM.
