Mark and Geoff just finished a heat pump project at my home. They were knowledgeable and professional. They worked quickly and kept the workspace clean. After the job was done, they took time to go over maintenance and use instructions until my wife and I were comfortable with the controls. They also managed all of the incentive paperwork to ensure we got as much money back as possible. I would recommend them to anyone and would work with them again in a heartbeat.
We recently experienced a scary minus-10-degree F arctic cold that stressed my heating system so much that I lost heat. After midnight on a Friday no less. The cold was so remarkable, I knew that I had only hours before pipes would start to freeze. I called Anderson Fuel for help, and they said "We will be right there." My heat was back functioning in under two hours, but most importantly a serious home disaster was completely avoided by their rapid response. I cannot more enthusiastically recommend Anderson Fuel. I've been a customer for 12 years. I can't say enough good things about this company. They are respectful, accommodating, and very efficient. I've never waited more than an hour or so for a technician when my equipment has failed, even in ice and snow. Anderson Fuel operates with all the services of a large company, but has the service commitment of a small, attentive one.
In November of 2022 my gas furnace was operating erratically. I called Anderson Fuel of Scituate, MA, as they had provided me with HVAC services since 2018. In response to my call I was told that customers with gas furnaces are lower priority than oil customers. A few days later two servicemen arrived in separate trucks and told me that the most likely culprit was a bad pilot burner. They ordered a new pilot burner. The two servicemen did not do any diagnostic work. The servicemen were at my home for about 20 minutes. I received an invoice: $30 service fee plus $160 in labor. I called Anderson. I was told that I was charged a minimum of one-hour labor per serviceman per the company's policy for gas furnace customers. Oil customers only get charged for a one-half hour minimum. I asked that they consider revising their policy, as I had been a good customer. Mark Anderson, son of one of the owners, Gary Anderson, told me that they would not adjust the bill or change their policy. A few days later the new pilot burner arrived and the two servicemen installed the new part. They also cleaned the furnace. They spent just under one hour doing this work. Before they left they told me that if the new pilot burner did not solve the problem, then they would replace the intermittent ignition module. They told me that the module was about three times the cost of the pilot burner i.e., they replaced the cheap part first before replacing any other parts. By the next morning I knew the new pilot burner had not solved the problem with my furnace. I am a hands-on person with decades of mechanical and electrical experience, so I went ahead and purchased a new intermittent ignition module OEM part for about $135. The new module arrived the next day. I installed the module immediately. The new module did not solve the problem. I started doing my own analysis of the furnace and found the problem. No new parts were needed. I fixed the furnace by myself. It now runs flawlessly. Before I called Anderson Fuel again, I checked my account online. I could see that the service to install the pilot burner was $160 for labor, $219.99 for the pilot burner and $30 for a service fee. I was astounded at the charge for the pilot burner, as I had found the exact same OEM part pilot burner online for $85.99. I called Anderson Fuel and spoke with Mark Anderson. I asked him to give me a copy of the invoice for the pilot burner. He refused to do so, but told me that they had bought the part for about $140 and marked it up by about 55%. He told me I should feel lucky as they usually mark up parts by 100%. I informed Mark that I had replaced the ignition module on my own and found that neither the pilot burner or ignition module solved the problem with my furnace. I then told him that I had solved the problem. I asked him if he would like to know what the culprit was. He said "No". He then told me that Anderson Fuel would no longer provide me with service for my furnace or air conditioning equipment. He told me that his father and uncle, the owners, were in agreement with this decision. He also told me that I should have asked for information before any repairs were performed. In other words Mark Anderson blames the customer for not asking the “right” questions when using their services. When talking with a neighbor after this experience, the neighbor told me that Mark Anderson also blamed him when this neighbor had a question about a billing charge. Here are relevant points: 1 servicemen did not do any diagnostic work, but rather replaced parts in the hope that they replaced the part that would fix the problem; 2 Anderson Fuel marks up parts as much as 55% to 100%; 3 Anderson Fuel puts oil customers ahead of gas customers; 4 Anderson charges gas customers more than they charge oil customers; 5 Anderson management has an arrogant attitude with customers.
Always friendly and professional. We had our furnace give a loud bang and stop working yesterday at 9:30 AM, when it was well below freezing. We’ve got the annual service package, called, they were at the house shortly after 10, quickly identified the issue, had the part on hand, and had us back up and running, at no cost, less than an hour after we called them.
I wish I could give Anderson Fuel more stars! We used them for at our home in Hingham for 10 years and loved never having to schedule a delivery. All of the technicians doing annual service were friendly and competent. One year we lost our hot water on Christmas Eve with a full house and they were at our house to fix it within 2 hours! We moved to Cohasset and had the boiler fail and the oil tank leak both within the first 60 days - Anderson was so responsive resolving both issues. Choose Anderson, you won’t regret it!
We've been using Anderson Fuel for many years and they have always provided excellent service. They are always there when you need them particularly in emergency situations. When I have called for an early oil delivery they don't question my request and deliver oil the next day. Their staff is very courteous, knowledgeable and professional. Over the years in addition to delivering oil, they have replaced my boiler and hot water tank. I have been satisfied with evrything that they have done. I definitely recommend them.
On the eve of July 4, 2016, my hot water heater was making a clicking sound and stopped working. Since it was after hours and a holiday, their business phone wasn't answering. So, I shut off the emergency switch and contacted Anderson fuel via email. A couple of hours later, I got a phone call from an Anderson employee! He offered to send a technician out that night to check on things for me and to fill the oil tank if necessary. I declined since it was not an emergency, and it was 4th of July, but what service! Thank you for caring and doing a great job!
As a long time customer of Anderson Fuel they are really an excellent fuel and HVAC company. They are always there for their customers when you need it the most in tough winters etc. I had a very tough zone system in my home that nobody could figure out until I had them take a look and Geoff was able to assess it and get it exactly the way it should be working. I highly suggest them for your home fuel and HVAC needs take it from me who had tried other fuel companies in the past.
