Story

Ana Montero practices Contemplative Psychotherapy taught by internationally recognized teachers from the Nalanda Institute for Contemplative Science in New York and the Institute of Traditional Medicine in Toronto, Canada.
She has been doing community-based counseling within an anti-oppression, feminist framework since 1996 and Shamanic/Indigenous healing and psychotherapy since 2009. She travels internationally to teach and serve diverse populations in South America, such as prison inmates and sexual abuse survivors.
Ana Montero is a Mindfulness Meditation facilitator at the University of Toronto, and currently in the Bachelor Social Work program at a Canadian University. She is also a graduate of the Contemplative End of Life Care Program at ITM. Her aim is to assist people to learn from and transcend their acute and chronic suffering.
Her specialities are trauma recovery and grief/death and dying.

Ana is an impressive therapist with a lot of experience and compassion. Choosing to start therapy with her, has been a really good decision from my part. I feel that I have advanced and healed in different aspects: trust in myself, self-esteem, my usual high levels of stress and anxiety. Also, my sleep quality has gotten better. This means a lot to me due to my chronic insomnia, I am still getting better and I continue to work with Ana in this respect. Something that I have thought that has been quite interesting is Ana's work with fragments or child selves. I am survivor of childhood abuse different kinds and I have differently aged girls in my mind whose suffering and anxiety cause me pain. This type of Internal Family System work with "my girls" has helped all my system to calm down and has lowered anxiety and helps me sleep restfully, as well as other benefits. I am grateful to Ana for assisting me in my healing process.
Starting therapy with Ana meant, from the very first moment, a total transformation in my life. Thanks to her, I have been able to understand the true impact of my childhood sexual trauma: the insecure attachment, my anxiety, the emptiness inside, my tendency for self-harm, my compulsions and dissociation. Ana's great compassion allowed me to surrender completely to my own genuine process of self-discovery and healing. Thanks to her skills and seemingly neverending kindness and patience, I have been able to heal little by little. I can now see that I required extreme care which luckily I was able to get when I entered therapy with Ana. Her approach was sometimes simple but powerful and I was able to untangle my internal chaos and I learned to live peacefully with myself. With Ana, I was able to come into my body and feel sane, pure, dignified and clean, not just through words but truly and really, from within my body. One of my greatest successes was being able to go back to swimming in a pool. Before starting therapy, I would be terrified of being in a pool and become easily dissociated due to trauma experienced there. However, after doing some neurological processing, I was able to be free of that terrible trigger. I now swim in a pool almost daily. I feel safe anywhere now! What I learned with Ana Montero, I have been able to take with me and I can now self-support and self-sooth. This is a whole sensation, a whole new life. My healing journey continues, but I am now empowered and can feel protected internally. I continue to use the knowledge and wisdom that was imparted by Ana. I recommend her completely.
