Great experience thus far. Love the variety of the classes. Steam and sauna options plus the recovery room. Hope to get more into lifting and etc in the equipment area soon. Plus, free parking. Haven't used the kids day care yet but what a great additional service to add. Couple things to change to make it 5 stars: the cafe. The food and pastry options need some work for the prices they charge. This gym is surrounded by many great cafes and food options in the area. Also their new 8 hrs cancelation policy or else you get charge $15 for late cancelation. This is brutal. There should be at least a 3 chances kind of policy before the charge. I've already been charged twice simply because I've forgotten to cancel my class in time. I'd rather take my chances and join a class last minute in order to avoid.
This gym was great when it opened, not too crowded, no lines for the shower there are only 5 showers and functioning towel holders, mounts, etc. As of today, every two weeks one more mount breaks, which gives me no place to put my towels and while I've complained to the front desk nothing has been done about it.nnThe sauna room is supposed to be a place to relax with some peace and quiet, but you can hear the bass blaring from the spin class. The person who designed the gym clearly does not have a clue about acoustics or how sound travels.nnAnother con is the $15 fee to cancel classes. As you can see people are pissed off about the 3 strikes being removed and switching to a penalty system. Equinox is offering a month off and I might be tempted to return there if nothing is fixed. Wonder if the gym will do anything about it because like everything in Canada, there are barely any competitors so mediocrity is acceptednnPros: Great classes, knowledgeable instructions, friendly front desk staff and has all the machines you can think of.
When I first joined this gym six months ago, everything seemed great—clean facilities, plenty of class options, and an overall pleasant experience. But things have changed, and not for the better.nnOver the summer, the number of classes was significantly reduced, which was already a letdown. Now, they've introduced a major policy change that’s being sold as an “improvement” but feels more like an insult. New rules include charging an additional $15 for canceling within 8 hours of a class, on top of a $240/month membership - this is excessive. The previous system, where we got 3 strikes before being penalized by not being able to book classes, NOT by charging us, was much more reasonable and fair. Even dance studios, spin studios and other specialty studios, which don’t have the recurring revenue gyms do, offer more leniency with cancellations.nnThis new policy makes it harder for me to commit to classes, and according to the email announcing the change, this is “to keep me accountable.” I joined this gym to improve my fitness, not to be penalized for life's unpredictability. It’s a real shame because it seriously affects how I planned to use the gym.nnI hope they reconsider.
I’ve had so many great experiences at Altea Active. I enjoy my work outs and classes so much. The instructors are incredible friendly helpful . I had a small group reformer Pilates on Thursday the instructor was amazing she took her time to politely explain to me to make a correction . The fitness centre that has almost everything under one roof. The changing room always spotless clean . The after work out suna and stream room is incredible . I look forward to my workout and classes each day I attend.
I changed my name to stay anonymous:nnI’ve attended a few classes at the gym, and while they are decent, there are a few areas that need improvement. Firstly, the cleanliness of the hot yoga mats could be better, as it seems the responsibility falls solely on members, leading to inconsistent maintenance. Additionally, there are frequent issues with the hot water supply, which is frustrating. I don't use the sauna often, but the one time I wanted to, I avoided it due to the lack of hot water.nnOn a positive note, the gym is well-equipped, and even during peak hours, it’s easy to find machines and space to work out. However, I’m rating it three stars instead of four due to their recent handling of holiday celebrations. While the gym went all out for Pride Month, there were no decorations for other significant occasions like Mother's Day, Father's Day, or even Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21st.nnA balanced approach to celebrating all holidays would create a more inclusive atmosphere if that’s really what they are going for instead of some woke agenda. The overwhelming pride decorations felt excessive and seemed more like an attempt to follow a trend rather than a genuine expression of inclusivity. You don’t need rainbow flags plastered all over the walls to be inclusive – it’s seriously over the top. It feels like just another company getting involved in politics rather than focusing on serving their customers. Yes the gym should be a safe space for everyone that’s obvious, but if you are going all out for such a controversial “holiday” then there should be equal recognition of all holidays as well.
