No response from this business to my feedback that was submitted almost two weeks ago, so here is my public review. Full disclosure, this review is only for The Swiss, one of the rental units under Allyn House Inn and the management's response to the situation. Reservation dated Sep 11-13 2021. Access code gated entry to the property, good location but that's where all the positives end. "The Swiss" is one of multiple rental units in their Shelton, WA location. It has exterior staircase leading to an unfinished attic, at the end of which is a bedroom. At the time of the visit, downstairs was very much under construction. Website says that construction is not going to be in the way of stay, but the pictures on their website and the description fail to show the interior staircase at the back of the room that ends with a door at the bottom that can’t be locked from inside, and the door itself opens to the construction zone. None of the doors in this space have locks installed. We called management, at 10 pm at night because that's when we had arrived, but the call was not handled professionally at all. They could have just as easily let it go to voicemail, but on choosing to answer our call, they should have at the very least hear our concerns instead of calling it a "city people" issue and threatening to leave a bad review and ultimately telling us to stay or leave, but not to call them at 10 o'clock at night. The misogynistic comment about "is my husband around to check the lock" was unacceptable. Somewhere during that call we were offered to go to the "Blue House" but we did not know which blue house. We weren't expecting anything fancy from this place, but we did expect basic safety, security and privacy and a level of decency when being spoken to. We never stayed. We were charged for the first night, but not the second. So, there you go, if you like a quiet, out of the way accommodation and don't mind lack of security and privacy, this could be the place for you. But if you do, then you may want to wait until at least the construction is fully done, or at the very least doors with locks are in place. Really wanted to support this small local business, but just left with a bad experience overall.
Love the ice cream and the service is good. Staff is very friendly, and aren't quite and awkward when serving. They'll hold a conversation with you. My favorite ice cream is the seahawk flavor which is a mix of lime and blueberry.
The Allyn House Inn is a beautiful, fully furnished apartment with full kitchen, bathroom, living room and bedroom on the waterfront. The owners of the Inn also own the kayak & ice cream shop below North Bay Kayak & Ice Cream, so kayak rentals were included with our stay and we had great fun exploring the small inlets nearby. The owners are so sweet and kind and have set up a luxurious apartment to spend quality time in when you're not out and about, it really feels like home but nicer. Would be a great place to stay on business or vacation. We will be back I can't wait!! North Bay Kayak and Ice Cream is a great place to go if you're wanting to explore a small facet of the Puget Sound by kayak, life jackets included. There is plenty opportunity to sea wildlife with harbor seals, blue herons, eagles, etc. nearby. There is the option of using single or double kayaks or stand up paddle boards. The Olympic Mountain Ice Cream North Bay serves is delicious with probably 20+ flavors to choose from.
I found the hospitality to be exceptional. New Paragraphs unfortunately I had broken down on the way home from work oh, and I was blessed enough to be able to pull into their parking lot find out that my alternator has gone bad. I notified the staff inside and they were more than gracious to let me keep my vehicle there overnight. Thank you very much I look forward to the next meal I have with you.
We usually love this place but last visit I got some peach sorbet and the first bite I knew something was wrong.....it tasted very strongly of fish of all things!! Almost as if it had been dipped in fish oil. It was inedible so the very nice young man working behind the counter replaced it for me with something else.
I love the ice cream but they dont have a ton of variety on any given day. They dont pack the scoops down enough so they fall easy BUT they are kind and professional and helpful and I will always go back.
Why would Allyn Kayak ruin a good thing by starting to sell an offt brand of ice cream? As a customer, I feel I've been had. For years we've stopped at this Allyn Ice cream shop for the best ice cream in the world - Olympic Mountain. The new owners, apparently, in an effort to enhance their bottom line, have stopped selling only OM but have neglected to mention it to their faithful customers. Shame on you. Make this right and bring back Olympic Mountain.
Terrible place to go kayaking because they make you carry the kayaks back through a good distance of knee-deep mud the tide lowers in the late afternoon. The kayaking experience itself was mediocre at best, but definitely ruined by having to trek through all that mud both dangerous and difficult.
Love this place. Great ice cream. Friendly, local feel. Really nice in the summer, but also good year round for a cuppa and a sandwich.
Small family store on Allyn's waterfront. Hire a kayak or purchase the most delicious ice cream. Inside seating as well as outside. A beautiful spot.
