The last stop of the Go Barrie Line is a modern structure located feet’s away from the historical station which is decommissioned. The service towards Toronto was recently improved. However, it takes about 1 and 30 min to reach Toronto. Arriving at union station may even take longer. The station has very limited parking, has no eating facilities or washrooms. Unlike other go stations they have only one display for the upcoming trains. This is located closed to the go bus platforms.
The station does the job but it really isn't in 'downtown' Barrie.
One of the most clean and accessible sandy beach I had been. A beach with lifeguards, walkway and biketrack, huge playground for kids, huge trees for shadows, beaches, basketball court, water sports activities, kayak/canoe rentals all at someplace.
No amenities whatsoever. No washroom, no drinking water fountain, the only place to sit on the platform is locked up. the stairwells smell like a mix of urine and mould. It’s also very unaccessible from downtown.
Easy access from the station and nearby picturesque, near-water, secluded spots e.g. the centennial fountain, gables park that you can visit.
