Christian was an extremely helpful and gracious host, and my mother and I had a lovely stay at his B&B. We originally were planning on being there for only a couple of days but extended it to a week and wished we could have stayed longer. The B&B itself is fascinating--extremely creatively decorated and filled with antiques and memorabilia. The room was very quiet, comfortable, and clean, and every morning we enjoyed eggs any way we wanted them, fresh croissants, and home-made jams. We will definitely be back next year!
funky older historic 3 stories building. If you are looking for "US type housing" this is not for you. The owner is eccentric and soft spoken. The house is a little bit of this and a lot of that. Some rooms have private baths, other do not. Inquire upon reservations. I always stay at the BB Revolution when in Montreal. Close to everything on foot. And yes , I am a bit eccentric. Not your typical traveler. Christian offers freshly made croissants and pain au chocolat if you want them and other breakfast items. The old solid oak dining table sits 8 persons and is perfect for international conversation. And yes, you can contact me. I live and work in Seattle.
I will only describe our brief interaction with the owner. Three days ago, we clicked on the dot on Google maps, and then called to inquire about a room for our family while I attend a conference in August. He did not have a room for the entire stay, but we made a reservation for the last 3 days of the conference. When he emailed the confirmation, it was the first mention of his policy of a non-refundable first day. We found on place to stay for the entire duration, and I cancelled this AM. He is now attempting to charge us for that first day. On top of that, his email correspondence has become rude, and he seems to have an issue either with people from the US, or people who speak English.
If I could go lower I would. Mr Alacoque also owns a building at 1185 Seymour ave. I have been his tenant there since July 2018. I have found a cockroach within the first week of living there and he told me that it was not a cockroach but a harmless bug, and that I was imagining things. When he wanted to speak with me, he would not email me or call to see if I was available, but would ring the doorbell multiple times. He would also knock on the door if I didn’t answer. There is a law in Quebec that states that a landlord needs to notify 24hrs in advance to visit the dwelling. When winter came around, he came by to verify the heaters in the appartement, without warning, and took it badly that I wouldn’t grant him access. Later, as I was having troubles with work paying me, Mr Alacoque decided that because rent was late that he would shut off the electricity in my appartement, while I was visiting family for the holidays. When I came back, the place smelled like something died. He also verbally abused me, called me a “vicious little c*nt” and called my roommate a gigolo. 0/10. Avoid this man!
I am a young female from the UK who was physically and verbally intimidated by the owner of this property, Christian Alacoque, at Alacoque B & B Revolution, 2093 St Urbain St, Montreal, QC H2X 2N1, Canada. For being ten minutes late to leave my room, after we had arranged late check out. Absolutely the worst travel experience of my life, and I travel abroad on average 1 x a month. Attached you will see the injury that Christian caused me by trying to force open my room door onto me after I closed it on him in fear, begging him for a short amount of time to clear up my stuff and get out did he think I was just going to walk out onto the streets leaving all my stuff behind me?! I took a video of it all too, and you need to see it to believe it. Reading the other reviews it is quite clear that Christian is absolutely mentally ill and a danger to all of his guests, in particular sole female travellers. A report is now with the Montreal police, and hopefully the place will be shut down. I have attached a photo of my injury, I'm not sure posting a link here is possible but the video of Christian charging at me, screaming abuse at me and lunging to attack me can be viewed by looking up the profile Saffire J Sandstrom on Facebook, I have made it public there so everyone should be able to see it, and it includes a full description of the events. Do not, under any circumstances, go to this B&B. You will not be safe there, and you will be under constant threat of assault and threatening behaviour by Christian, who is always present, and now under investigation with the police due to my experience with him. If I could give less than 1 star I would. Absolutely speechless, and traumatised that a B&B owner could treat a paying guest in this way.
Excellent experience. Spacious rooms, beautiful ancient building, delicious breakfast, and great location. We could feel the care involved in every detail by management. Next time in Montreal, I won't think twice about staying there again.
Christian the owner is absolutely crazy! Read other reviews and beware! I wish I'd read the reviews on here properly before booking. Turns out my booking didn't even happen, which I'm kinda glad about though it did mean I was very stuck for somewhere to stay overnight. I was five minutes late for my allotted check in time and was told rudely via text message that the place was "firm" after that time - what? I had to dig that out of my old school book French to understand!! Ferme - closed. Ahaaa. Well I wasn't aware that B&B's randomly closed anyway, where I come they are open 24/7 let alone such an early closing time. But ok, I aimed to get there for 7pm as Christian the owner had said the place was "firm" after..... I arrived at 7.05pm. This was because there was absolutely nowhere to park and no one to help me find a place to park, or I would have actually got there on time. Still, the door was locked and no one around, not a soul to be seen. I couldn't believe it really. After making an advance payment and given the fact it was hardly late in the evening at all. So I called Christian - who didn't answer until the 14th time - because I thought I was gonna be stuck, and he was expecting me. When I told him of my problem and I told him I was outside and only five minutes late, he quickly got rude saying he'd "told" me about the rules and then just shouted a loud of broken English at me about "firm" B&Bs and eventually, hung up. But I'd made and paid for my booking. Completely ridiculous. Going through the agent I used for a refund now because he still hasn't returned the deposit himself. I wouldn't book here again if it was the last place on earth. Christian speaks really awful English, much too badly to be able to properly communicate even though he runs a hotel in an English speaking country. My schoolboy French is better! But it's not even that, it's the fact that he's actually crazy. Reading the other reviews, especially recent ones, I am all the more backed up in this belief! Don't go!
Shabby chic gone too far and let go for far too long. Interesting insects crawling around the basement "suite" for budding entomologists to study. Left after one night.
Great little spot, very vintage vibe. the owner Christian is a delight.
Great rooms great service awesome location. Good price.
