Ajax High School

Story

Ajax High School, a caring community school, is situated in the heart of the town of Ajax, south of the Hwy. 401, and just east of the intersections of Harwood Avenue and Bayly Street. The school has a tradition of excellence that dates back to its beginnings in 1956.

In 2002, an adjacent school amalgamated with Ajax. Our current population of approximately 1550 students reflects the cultural diversity of the community. Approximately 120 teachers and support staff are committed to providing a safe, welcoming environment where high educational standards flourish. The school is committed to equity and accessibility programming. Special programs at our school include: French Immersion, and Special Education associated, developmental, behaviour intervention, and transition to work classes. Our Cooperative Education program boasts a large number of work experience programs for our senior students. An extensive Technology Education department offers a range of courses in transportation, manufacturing, technological design, construction and communications technology, including state-of-the-art computer labs, and a television studio.

Our enthusiastic Student Council provides students with a host of activities ranging from a grade nine orientation to dances and spirit activities. Ajax H.S. students are very community minded, raising money yearly to purchase toys for children at Christmas. Over $10,000.00 was raised in one effort for this cause as well as raising $6,000.00 for the Tsunami Relief Effort in January 2005. For five years, the entire school participated in a Terry Fox walk which in some years, has raised over $5,000.00.
