Clean, bright, open space with comfortable chairs, and it looks renovated not long ago. TVs in multiple locations with a variety of games on.nThe bartender was cheery when he sat us, and the server was nice. She didn't get back to check much as there were quite a few tables, but we didn't need anything, so it was okay.nThe food was good, and the fries were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the outside.
The admiral I heard has had a huge history, I was hoping to sort of view some of it but I sadly did not, what I did get however was crippling anxiety from just walking inside to see it very slow and not busy at all, made me think that it doesn’t get much business on karaoke nights, I know I went in, first thing I found when I sat down was a group of people, one person in the large group to be completely hammered, I do hope he got home safely and didn’t drive himself else wise that would be a huge huge huge issue for the pub, the other big issue I had was the service which wasn’t great to be perfectly honest. I don’t think I’ve had as bad as service at any place I’ve gone to in some time. The karaoke was good for what I did, some folks were a bit too loud with the percussion instruments they were using to have fun with, that and there was a group of people with a small kid with them that I feel was going to cause issues, thank goodness it did not become the case, I do know however the food, definitely needed to be improved upon. The service too, I didn’t really get much for service, and when it was time for me to get out of here I was having a even harder time to get my bill that I could pay so I could do that. Not mad at how the service was but I do think that there could have been a bit more attention paid to how slow it was and see if there’s anything else I could have had, like oh idk ask if I needed a napkin or two for my meal which I didn’t get any for. I just think that this was not a place I’ll order food from unless I go with friends. I think this may be better for having a drink or two with some people and enjoying that kind of aspect of life.
I recently had an incredibly positive experience at the Admiral Pub in Burnaby, British Columbia. My server, Oliver, found me the best seat in the house for the Canada and Argentina COPA 2024 opening match, which I was really looking forward to watching.nnThe Admiral feels like a classic Canadian pub where you feel welcomed, almost like you’re on the set of Cheers. It’s full of televisions and projectors, creating a chill and laid-back atmosphere.nnI started with Cajun wings and Cajun fries, both well-seasoned and delicious. The blue cheese sauce was phenomenal, though I would have liked it a bit more chunkier. The calamari was also excellent, capturing the essence of a true calamari dish.nnFor my main dish, I had the butter chicken, formulated by the head chef, who is also the owner. I highly recommend getting the extra flatbread to fully enjoy it—it’s worth it. Oliver also recommended the lamb, which I might try next time after enjoying the butter chicken so much.nnOliver was top-notch, making me feel at home and very personable. He’s one of my favorite servers of 2024, and I highly recommend him if you visit the Admiral Pub.nnEven though Canada didn’t beat Argentina in the opening game, the atmosphere remained lively and friendly. The Admiral Pub is a great spot for watching sports, singing karaoke, and having a good time in North Burnaby. Finding a consistent “third place” in the city is tough, and the Admiral Pub hit every check mark for me tonight.
It was a Saturday afternoon. We visited because of the live band show that day. This pub is a bit old in decor, but it's very spacious and has a proper stage set up.nWe ordered a few drinks and some snacks to enjoy along with the music. Pricing is reasonable.nWe noticed a bulletin board besides the entrance when we left. There are quite many gigs going on.
The truffle fries and steak was excellent. We also ordered the wings and the pork belly. Live music was nice - good song choices.
