Very nice local park. Have a picnic then take a walk on the trails. Views of Irondequoit Bay are great. The trails are well marked and used. Take white to green for the bay views. If you have a map, you can make lots of fun loops throughout the park. Spend a few hours.
Omg! I have been living 5 min away from this park for years and had no clue that it was such a big park and so challenging! It’s absolutely gorgeous park with intermediate to advanced hills. Really depends on your fitness levels and experience hiking. As mentioned by others, DO wear hiking boots. Or at least shoes with good gripping power. This park is well marked. For the big trails white, orange and yellow, but there are a number of other trails that don’t have blazes. Can follow the trails using the map available on the Google listing. If anyone from the trail maintenance is reading this, please get someone to build a bridge for the big creek crossing. It’s quite a walk across when the water runs in the spring. Also, there is one “bridge” that needs to be fixed on the white trail. It appears to have erosion damage. Please add blazes for the other trails in the park to make it easier to figure out where you are on the map. One more thing, I couldn’t find the Wegmans Hit the Trails Passport post at the spot marked on the passport map. That needs to be fixed. Meanwhile, absolutely enjoy this hidden gem in our community!!!!
Cool well marked trail from behind the playground all the way to the bay. You could go into the water at the end if you wanted, but not a lot of beach and no lifeguard or anything duh. I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of sites on this short trail. I’d say 45-1 hour round trip maximum. Easy to mildly moderate at spots - I saw kids on the trail so it’s really not hard
Park has nice views of the bay, but be aware that it does have some very steep hills.
I love it, this park is so deceptive. From the street, it looks like a little dinky park with a couple picnic tables and playground. But in reality, it's enormous with winding, hilly trails that takes you deep into a forest. Very nice
Nice playground here, there is also a natural Playground and little cabin to play in. There are also some really nice hiking trails. My kiddo is a seasoned hiker and one of the trails we ended up taking was a bit tricky in spots even for me! We had a great time tho and definitely recommend this park for the playgrounds or for the trails.
My nephew had a blast with all the different experiences, definitely a place when you want to just let your children play.
Nice two hour hike on white, black and red trails. There are also the green and yellow trails. I would advise not bringing small children as the are steep ravines that the trails are on and footing can be slippery after storms. Beautiful views of the bay from the cliffs and bluffs. Remember to use the buddy system when hiking. The red trail is off of the White trail and will take you right next to the water. I brought a ground cloth and had snacks with the family here. Also please carry out what you bring in and keep these trails nice for all to enjoy.
Nice little park. Don't have young children anymore, but looks fine for that. The hiking trails are why I went. Miles of trails that go through the woods and down to the bay. Can get muddy and be challenging for some due to hills and somewhat slippery terrain when wet. Hiked there recently because we've never been and didn't feel like driving over an hour south. We were surprised on how remote it felt after getting deeper onto the white trail. Couldn't really hear road noise and felt peaceful. Very nice for how close it is.
Over the past few years I have probably spent 100+ hours walking alone in this park. I have gone down every trail and turn, every old closed down trail and all the newer ones they make, and have tried to make my own trail at times. It is my favorite forest and I never get sick of it, its big enough to feel like you always see something new that you missed but small enough to not get lost in. The way through the park will be up to you, but this is what I worked out over the years: Start at the parking entrance with the playground and go in, head right and stay right, down the hill and through the cats tails, until you get to a fork in the trail. Here you go LEFT up the hill. It's slightly steep but a good warm up. When you are on top you take a RIGHT and start walking down the cliff of the coast of the bay. The views are the best here and as you can see from the pictures, this is prime for sunsets. You will eventually reach the end of the cliff coastline and it will start going downhill. At the bottom of the hill, you can go LEFT to get to a bigger grassy opening with no trees blocking the view and look out at the bay. Take a RIGHT to keep going back into the woods. You'll walk with a marshy inlet to your left until you get to an area with wide openings in between pine trees on a series of various little hills. Explore this if you want, and then you'll reach an area at the end of the hills that has another marsh full of cattails. This part is hard to describe... you want to pass this little sliver of marsh but as soon as it's out of sight, you want to veer left when you can. You'll reach a little wooden bridge built by a man who dedicated to his wife as a wedding present. He's a doctor in the area. Dont cross this bridge, go LEFT and walk down the creekline it's not always running and depends on how recent it rained. At this point you'll find this little area to the RIGHT of another marsh at the end of the creekline. You can simply follow that path and it will take you closer and closer to the other side of the bay. Finally you will reach the end, a path that leads you out to a wide clearing, fire circle, grill, and big 2 story party house run by the town of Webster. This is a great place to eat, rest, play some toss, let the dog run for a bit. When you head back in the woods, you can go the same way back, or just focus your anchor on the bay coastline, which wraps around the woods, irondequoit bay as a straight shot out to the lake, and the side of the bay is to the right of the bridge when looking out from the shore at the restaurants etc on the bay near the boats. If you just walk in a straight direction as much as possible towards the corner where the straight shot and right bay side meet, then walk in a straight shot back towards the boats and restaurants etc, eventually you will reach that spot where the road forked and the cat tails you walked through after the entrance will be right in front of you. Hope that made sense, but if not, just wander around and dont give up til you make it out again. Usually works in most life situations.
