7 Monks Taproom

About

A rotating 51 tap craft beer bar and gastropub on the corner of Michigan St. and Eastern Ave. Please stay tuned for updates...

Story

Michigan's first 7 Monks opened in Traverse City over Labor Day Weekend back in 2011. There were only "7" trappist monasteries brewing beer at the time...hence our name. The name remains although the number of trappist breweries continues to increase across the world. We've never been more proud to serve world class beer, fantastic food and offer an atmosphere where you can comfortably enjoy any of our offerings!

We have fifty-one rotating taps, over 100 craft bottles/cans, and a full bar.

Our second location launched in Boyne City, MI, during the summer of 2016. Grand Rapids opened it's doors to a wonderful and welcoming community on April 21st, 2017.

Cheers!

Extensive beer menu capable of catering to anyone’s tastes! We were very impressed with our drinks, but felt the food could have gone farther for the price. The green curry was spicy and delicious, but felt small and contained only a few little pieces of chicken. The Double Truffle Pizza had a great flavor, but was mostly crust and seemed slightly over cooked. A fantastic stop for drinks with friends! And the food was delicious! But there’s some room for improvement.
My family and I were drawn in by a holiday promotion, and decided to come check it out. Our food and drinks were great! Tons of drinks to choose from, and my family enjoyed them. Service was lacking, for sure. My only reason for subtracting a star. When ordering our food and drinks, we barely received a head nod in response. This went on most of the night. The highlight of our night was meeting Santa! Really great guy! We took pictures with him, and he was hilarious.
We were sat very quickly and the food was great! Our server was very nice and gave some good recommendations. Highly recommend the pickle wonton appetizer and Blue Hawaiian Joose. We enjoyed all of the food and drinks we ordered.
Fantastic beer selection, very good although limited food menu. Good service, decent atmosphere - music was a touch loud, but not intolerable. Overall, we had a great evening here and intend to visit this establishment again in the future. The wall of taps behind the bar is fascinating - every last tap handle is unique.
Good beer selection...nice variety of styles. Interesting food menu, but I missed kitchen hours by a bit an missed out. Want to go back soon
I love this place! I went on a Sunday and it was awesome. Had the sweet potato fries and the friend pickles. Haha fried. But friend pickles sounds good. But they were sooo good. I wish they’d have a half off happy hour night live music and board games!! So glad the place is in town! I will definitely be a frequenter. Hope they have a rewards program like Taco Borracho. And do some crossovers! Loving the Michigan street!
Super local place welcoming to out of town visitors. Great selection of craft beers and lots of local options.Food: 4/5
Always a nice chill experience at 7 Monks. Food is great here, never had a bad meal. There is a large draft list to choose from and good happy hour deals. Service is always friendly as well.
For a city renowned for their beer scene, there are very few GREAT craft beer bars in Grand Rapids. 7 Monks is definitely one of them. From classics to the newest and fres⁸hest, to limited one-off beers, this place has your beer needs covered. It's one of my favorite places to take out-of-towner when they visit, because there's a bit of everything for everyone. Feels like a craft beer bar, tastes like one. Only minor quibble is seating seems tight some nights, but that's a problem across the whole of the restaurant world right now. Also, while delicious, the hot chicken sandwich is not nearly hot enough. Like, give it to me, I can take it. Add the Two James bar attached next to it try their rye whiskeys, to die for, and have yourself a nice little evening out. Parking can be tough as it's on a major street nestled next to a residential area. You may need to walk a block or two, so keep that in mind if you have issues. Parking: No lot, only street parking.
We stopped in for their Ruben being St. Patrick's. Unfortunately they ran out of Corned beef... The other options were pretty good. We enjoyed our alternate choices from the menu.Food: 3/5
