High rent for a place with lot of homeless people and gun shots heard frequently. Not a safe place to live. Now I live in a quiet safe place where the rent is half of what I paid at walnut and my current place is very spacious than walnut, I have giant living room now.
I’ve somewhat recently moved in. It’s been a terrible experience so far.nnThe unit was not “move In ready”. It had several issues with the doors, the electrical, the thermostat and the cabinets. The appliances were filthy and needed to be cleaned. The floors have some gaps in between the seams. This was all promised to fixed and cleaned during the tour but was not.nnThe “security” in this building is also extremely poor. One of them is always on her phone or doing her homework and not actually her “job” and when you ask her to do something she looks annoyed or tells you to wait until her conversation the phone is done normally about 20 minutes. Very little help.nnThe heat gas which you pay for and is not Included in the rent also tends to take 15 - 20 minutes before getting warm and while it’s on, the vents tend to make additional noise.nnI can go on and on about issues in this building, but there’s no point. The management does not care. So please save your money and rent elsewhere. I will be leaving asap.
I have lived here for a year and a half. The previous property manager, Stephen, was excellent and made living here comfortable and secure. However, since the new management team took over, everything has seriously declined. One of the main reasons I chose Walnut Place was the promise of 24-hour security, which justified the higher rent. Recently, daytime security was removed with only a brief notice sent to tenants—no proper explanation or consultation was given. This change greatly reduces tenant safety and the overall value of living here. It feels like a cost-cutting decision that sacrifices residents’ security.nnMoreover, the new management team’s service is terrible — they are unresponsive, careless, and disrespectful to tenants. The building has also become very disorderly; previously, most tenants were international students, but now the tenant mix is chaotic and poorly managed. To make matters worse, my unit has a serious silverfish infestation that has not been adequately addressed by management.nnI strongly advise anyone who values good management, safety, and a peaceful living environment to avoid renting here.
I no longer live here, and honestly, it’s not worth the high rent they charge. The one-bedroom units are incredibly small—more like shoeboxes—with no storage lockers included and no visitor parking, even if you’re willing to pay for it. The finishes in my unit were subpar; the upper kitchen cupboard doors would randomly come unhinged, which was a safety hazard. The bedroom was uncomfortably tight, and the bathroom layout was poorly designed. The toilet is crammed next to the sink cabinet, with the toilet paper holder awkwardly mounted so it hangs directly over the toilet. More than once, it dug into my ribs—and my guests noticed the same issue.nnThe gym is underwhelming, with only a few machines, and several of them were frequently out of service, which pushed me to use my campus gym instead. The photos used to advertise the units are misleading—it looks far better in pictures than in reality. Also, the smell from the garbage bins often leaked into the lobby area, which management didn’t seem to properly address.
Don’t get tricked of advertisements.nReally worst place to live in, by many terms with expensive rentals when I rented 1 year ago, not sure about today compared to others in the area for example the new building at 22 Hughson St N and 212nKing William which are both very nice.n1. Has been struggling with silver fish infestation for months and lady bugs during the fall, with bringing the issue multiple times and after nagging I finally saw the property manager taking action and bringing a pest control, took them to do two treatments and still seeing few silver fish on the stickers they provided.n2. The details to the infrastructure is the worst, lots of cracks in the baseboards and around the windows sealing, also had to ask multiple times for proper sealing and with time it cracks again! And you can see how dirty the edges are and those stuff doesn’t go away with cleaningn3. Had an incident where my unit was entered on a wrong day to fix the cracks while I was away traveling and I didn’t even get an apology.n4. Corridors and elevators are always dirty and smelling gross.nnI’ll attach some pics showing those issues. Have lots more to show but at least to get an idea. Take care!
